New domestic routes

Interesting route. I've just booked SYD-OAG flights myself for a weekend getaway July. It's been about 15 years since I've been there.
 
From the 1st May

A mix of Q200/Q300

SYD-OAG

QF2015 – 10.30 – 11.20 MWTFSa
QF2017 – 14.00 – 14.45 Su
QF2017 – 16.55 – 17.45 MTWTF

OAG-SYD

QF2016 – 11.40 – 12.30 MWTFSa
QF2018 – 15.10 – 16.00 Su
QF2018 – 18.25 – 19.15 MTWTF

Those flight times look great, now to await some reward seats and then I will be booking in.
 
Wow QF are really going after Rex in a big way. I guess the end game is to drive them out such routes so QF can extract monopoly rent on them. These routes have been prime for the taking for years. I do fear we are on a path to a single player domestic market, such is the strength of the QFF which has an incredible hold of much of the travelling public.
 
Rex have a superior frequency , so the 2 should co-exist, although Rex will have a dummy spit at QF , which is just the norm when they face competition .

Its interesting see that REX has already added a $108 promo price to undercut QF's $129 intro.

This is a good move by Qantas. I live in the area and regularly commute to Sydney. The flights might skim a few pax off JQ and VA services (I usually see a smattering of Q-tagged bags on JQ and Virgin flights), but given they both time flights towards leisure pax, I doubt it'll hurt them too much.

REX are the ones who will likely suffer the most as their daily services currently offer the only option for a day-return trip to Sydney (with aircraft sitting on the tarmac overnight at BNK). They charge like wounded bulls on the route, so it'll be interesting to see if their fares come down to compete with QF. Mind you on QF it's a 20 year old rattly turbo-prop vs a 30 year old one on REX with similar in-flight service, so it's not a huge upgrade for regulars on this route. Fingers crossed it's be a success for QF and we'll see 717s and eventually mainline 737s take over.

Yep, as predicted and within days of the QF announcement, chip-on-shoulder-press-release and all. I doubt they'll be missed. If REX had any marketing acumen and more strategic pricing they'd have been killing it on the route by differentiating themselves from the leisure-focused competition. I expect Qlink will do well on BNK.
 
Please QFLink if you have any more spare capacity chuck a Q300 back on Burnie/Wynyard :) :)
 
Is there an expected announcement date for QF starting service from SYD to GFF. This will be awesome, Rex have provided poor service for so many years.

Does SYD have enough apron space for all these new QF flights :)
 
From what I've seen, it will be a very, very tight squeeze.
Is it likely to be any tighter than before the 300s were sent over to JQ NZ? Perhaps if they weren't formerly SYD-based before their Aotearoa sojourn, it'll cause more of a bottleneck than before.

Dash 8-300s for new routes, although their MTOW is under 20t, the new rule for security is 40 seats. They have 50.

So does that mean any route that a -300 goes into will require security when new rule comes in, or will QF get dispensation or get new rule delayed indefinitely ?

This being discussed in another thread about Alliance operating F70/F100 for VA maybe BNE/ABX, OOL/ABX for massive U.S. company Vail resorts, who now run Falls Creek & Hotham & very hard for Qlders to get to these resorts, who now mostly go to NZ or elsewhere to ski.

BNE/ABX & OOL/ABX are old Jetgo routes, which think ended up being daily using 36-44 seaters.

Hotham airport(MHU) also desperately needs commercial service back. None since 2013 IIRC.

QF used to fly SYD/MHU & before that SYD/MHU/MEL but have been told by many, they flew far too many services & load factors were awful. Fri/Sun services seems to be consensus of what is required initially.

Think the resort at Hotham runs the airport, so presume that means Vail.

Could they just remove 10 seats from the Dash 300s to comply with the 40 seat threshold?
