New Citibank Terms & Conditions

Received my new terms on my e-statement.

I missed out reading the 10K in the previous T&C .... just to be sure, If I owe them more than 10K, I won't get any points on amounts above the 10K and not on the entire month billing cycle, right? TIA.

I was quite annoyed when I first read the letter with my last statement as I thought the "government charges" and "insurance charges" would affect me. However, now that I see that they are also listed in the old terms and conditions in andrewf's post I assume they only mean citibank related charges.

I thought that things like health, car, house and contents insurance as well as things like car rego, council rates etc would be affected but I have always received QFF points for them in the past and I'm guessing that I will continue to do so. I hope so anyway.

I am wondering the same - it could potentially mean you don't earn points on things like the excess on travel and product insurance that comes with the cards? I have earned points on insurance (eg from NRMA) in the past. Hopefully it continues.

Ive just come back from 3 weeks in Europe and must say the Priority Pass was fantastic allowed us in most Lounges and worth every cent. Not so good in Oz but Europe and U.S. great.

Perhaps 'insurance charges' refers to Citibanks own products (like income protection/travel insurance)....?

I checked my last few statements and I've received points for CGU insurance transactions

Does anyone know if Citi Select is still awarding points on council rates payments? Can't quite figure out if that counts as "government charges" or not.

As far as I know the only govt charges that result in no points are ATO payments

Talked my friend into this card as he has the Citibank Emirates card and wanted to ditch it before the points drop to one for one. He spoke to Citibank who told all government charges will not earn points. Rates, rego and similar transactions. Hope its just another Citibank worker who doesn't know whats going on....

On 3 December 2013 I received a letter from Citibank re "Changes to your Emirates Citibank Platinum Card". The major changes are:

EARN RATE : CURRENT : EFFECTIVE 1 MAY 2014

Domestic spend per A$1 : 1.5 Skywards mile : 1 Skywards mile

International spend per A$1 : 1.5 Skywards mile : 1.5 Skywards mile

Emirates Spend per A$1 : 1.5 Skywards mile : 2 Skywards mile

There are explanatory notes, terms and conditions in line with postings below.

My first reaction is that the change in points earning regime makes this card less attractive than it one was. What are others views, and does anyone have thoughts about a better alternative?

Further to some of the postings below, the biggest problem I've ever had with Citibank, and I've been a customer for a long time, is it's a very difficult organisation to communicate with. Very USA centric in its thinking and actions. I know I'm not alone with this school of thought.

Does anyone have any update on whether non-Citibank Insurance is still earning points?

Apart from Car and Home Insurance....are Health Fund Payments caught up in this?

I spoke with Citibank today. Only retail spends will earn points. All insurances are exempt from earning points.

I'm pretty sure that while they say no insurance earns points, it continues to do so - so your medibank, hbf, hif etc health insurance, car insurance etc should still be earning points.

Please make your own inquiries. I specifically asked about a whole range of insurances and was given answers in the negative. On what basis are you making your assertion?

My assertion is on the basis that I'm still receiving points for all my insurance payments, along with council rates and utility bills. It's well known that Citibank CSAs often do not know how their products work, and it's common to receive differing advice from different reps. In any event, the advice you received is correct as per the T&Cs - but it's not enforced by Citibank.

The T&Cs used to prohibit government charges from earning points, but as most will know, ATO payments continued to earn points until expressly forbidden last year. Whilst they clamped down on ATO payments, no other government charges, utility bills, insurance etc were cut off from points earning. The easiest way to check is to make a small test payment for your insurance, utility bill etc and then see if you earn points.

Tnx. I hope you're correct. Bear in mind that the new T&Cs come into effect on 1 May 2014. It may be a case of 'watch this space' post this date.

I can confirm that income protection and life/TPD insurance premiums paid to Asteron this week were credited with full points on my Select.

I am starting to switch some Government and semi Government items across to Westpac Black starting next month as the work office books quite a bit to my card when I am not watching. A bit early I know but you cannot get correct answers by calling nor can you get a running account from them at Citi. You have to figure it out yourself and the more actively the card is used the harder it is to get to figure the points earn. Typically my card is two pages long and it gets reloaded during the month.
