Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

AA has more restrictive rules than USDM.

there are a bunch of routing limitations (for example, you cannot fly from australia to europe with a connection in the Middle East), and generally speaking, for any proposed itinerary, the airlines in question must have a published fare for that route.

where USDM might let you add bits and pieces of flights here and there to get to where you want, with AA, if it's not a recognised routing/fare, you won't be getting it on miles. in a way it's kinda like the USDM 'most direct route' rule, although the AA one is enforced.

also so no stopovers with AA.

Thank you (and anat01 too) for all this excellent info.

From the looks of that be better to book USDM now just in case.

I've only used AS miles before, but when the 100% extra deal was on had to buy USDM and its more choice OW airlines and destinations.

Except when entering leaving north America.

Then it's possible to do a stop over at your entry / exit point eg SYD LAX (stop) JFK, IAD JFK (stop) LHR

I've seen tips for people to book a side trip to Hawaii so they only need to pay the return leg of their trip.

Not any more. They changed those rules without notice not too long ago.

I remember. I was going to book 4 days later and it screwed up my plans majorly!

Oh how I wish i:

a) Bought the miles in the previous promo, and
b) registered my wife for an account before yesterday.

Looks like one of us will have a jolly good time flying CX or QA F while the other gets stuck on QF J one way and most likely Y on the way back, with the current AA promo...

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

guys... im new to USDM and signed up on 29 Oct to buy miles in this promo in line with the transfer to AA next year. anybody know how US calculate their 12 days for new accounts. trying to buy miles today (supposed to be 12 days) and still says the account is ineligible for miles purchase. will try tomorrow with better luck but knowing that the promo end on the 12th is cutting it fine.

As it closes at 11.59pm PT in the US on 12th November, that would be 6.59pm on Thursday 13th in SYD/MEL, I think. Not sure what time it would be for you in BNE (+/- one hour?).

So, there's still 3+ days to go. Plenty of time.

aah yes... the one advantage to US closing times. good to know. works really well for us with award availability releases as well :)

QLD 1 hour behind NSW so closing USDM deal be 12.59pm Thurs 13th.

Not it sure what the CNS cut-off would be, but I think that BNE would be 7.59pm if they are one hour ahead? Or 5.59pm if behind? Or something like that?

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

How is it that these responses are coming with a topic heading about Red Roo denying a rumour about QF denying Jetstar pax access to FLounge?

Edit: Since 30/10/14

All Qld Same.

Must say even with 240 USDM thinkin of buying more before cut off, but finding suitable flights is another matter.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Just a thought for anyone considering buying to load up prior to the merger.

My rudimentary maths makes it cheaper to take up the AA offer

Cheapest Miles for the USDM offer is at 50k + 33.5k bonus = 83.5k miles for $1750 plus taxes. So 2.09 cents per mile plus taxes. (Buying 80k + 50k is 2.15 cents per mile)

Cheapest Miles for AA offer is 80k plus 28k = 108k miles for $2200 plus taxes - so 2.03 cents per mile plus taxes

Of course if you are going to make a booking for USDM straight away, then that makes sense - however with the Calendar about to finish for the 80k capout with AA - it may be a slightly cheaper alternative

Whichever one is the cheaper won't affect me. I've already bought the AA miles earlier this year, so it's USDM or nothing here. ;)

Edit: Finally worked out how to get rid of that "Rumour: [Denied by RR] ......... " banner

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

The U.S. miles are more expensive than AA but you don't get too many opportunities to buy 130k miles in one hit :)

Also not many opportunities to fly via Europe to new York at transpacific rates!
