Thanks JohnK, would have been nice to know that about 2 days ago!:D

I am sure i will cope with the price that I paid..

Hi Lord Mud

Could you please comment on the Ibis Hotel's

- Size of the room
- WIFI (does it work well ?)
- breakfast (good/bad)
- fridge in the room (yes/no)
- location (good/bad) - from the reviews it appears to be very central

many thanks as I want to stay there shortly.

Cheers

J

Any reviews on this hotel?

It's about $SG150 / night for when I'm there next month. Another option is the Parkview Holiday Inn - about $SG225 at the moment.

Hi Mal,

I reviewed this hotel last month in my first trip report.

It is a reasonable place, somewhat better than typical Ibis fare in answer to jeffr001

room size is average, comfy but not too small.

wifi works pretty good, was getting good d/l speeds and it is free

Breakfast is pretty good. American style buffet between 0630 and 1000 with continental around those hours. if not included in room price will cost SGD$15

No fridge in the room unless you call those little "car fridges" that hold about two cans a fridge

location is awesome right near sim lim square on bencoolen rd. about 5 mis walk to bottom of orchard rd. only hang up is distance to MRT if you were handicapped as it is a a good couple of hundred meters to the nearest station at Dhoby Ghaut

cheers

One final question - what size is the in-room safe? Did you try and store a laptop in there?

Oh and the A-Club $SG120 rate (incl brekkie for 2) is still available for booking, which is pretty sweet. Options at other hotels started at $SG150 + tax (for flexible), and I would have had to pay for wireless and brekkie on top of that.

Isn't the wireless free though

In Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen yes - Other Singapore hotels I was looking at -- $SG25++ etc per day.

Aaah, worked out why you thought I meant something else ... have clarified my post!

Oops! Only skimmed it and missed the part that said 'Next best reasonable hotel' :)

OK, the AGD120 rate become SGD141 when
ppplus.bmp
is added, but still good value given breakfast for two, wifi would be at least another SGD60 or so in many other places.

I've changed plans and booked this - thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the correction on the +++ - for some reason I'd missed that with the offer. The other good thing about the offer is that the rate is cancellable up to the night of arrival without penalty. (Check the T&C's around the promo for more details)

Yep, noted that; the standard advance purchase/non-cancellable base rate was SGD128
ppplus.bmp
with breakfast an addional SGD15

While it probably is a very nice hotel, at the rates being discussed I consider it very much a MID-RANGE hotel. There are a couple of levels between the Ibis and backpackers, many of which are clean with reasonable size rooms. I suspect the exteriors may not be as nice nor do they probably offer wifi.

But they are in the 100-110 SGD range. Then you have the 70-80 SGD range which I know JohnK has sampled which are substantially smaller rooms and with no services. Then the backpackers at 50 SGD or so.

Yes they are small rooms, and some provide complimentary water and cup of noodles, but more than adequate for somewhere to drop off luggage and head off for the night. I have found these hotels to be very secure, remarkably quiet at night and only ~SGD15 from airport.

I would not hesitate to stay in a Hotel 81 or Fragrance hotel in Singapore again when I resume my trips to SE Asia again....

Rather than open a new thread on the same hotel, I've decided to use this thread itself.

We stayed at the IBIS hotel for one night on a stopover on the way to Nairobi. The booking was made online on the Ibis website during an Asia Room sale and we got a double room for a very good price. I think it was about A$100 and did not include breakfast. The hotel location is also very good, right opposite Sim Lim Tower and within walking distance of Little India and Mustafa Center (15-20 mins). The taxi from the airport cost about SG$ 20. The rooms were a bit small, but reasonably sized. The best feature of the hotel was the free wireless internet in all rooms. There was a restuarant in the hotel, but we did not make use of it as we preferred to eat out. Just for the internet, I would use this hotel again if a good rate is available.

There's PLENTY of places outside this hotel where you can get a good feed at quite reasonable cost.

For those talking about what is a budget hotel - Wotif quotes the IBIS on Bencoolen at S$150 and the Hotel 81 on Bencoolen at S$100.

Last time I used an IBIS was at CDG airport and it was very basic with no character at all and I would not be rushing into using another one.

Hotel 81 in Singapore is a chain of truly budget properties - over at Geylang they are about S$60 a day and about S$10 per hour!
