My account is too new to take advantage of this but should have matured prior to the promo being over Oct 31st so I suspect I'll buy then - yay! Then just try and keep the account active once every 2 yrs.

Is this one of the better promo's or do they get better?

I'm planning on going through the AA thread and Avianca thread but we're talking 200 and almost 700 pages respectively ....

No it's nowhere near one of the better promos. Having said that it's still not a bad deal if you have a redemption in mind that you need the miles for.

Thank you for this! I have to admit I keep forgetting about this guy but he does report in relation to 'down under' including NZ! I like his summary of offer history also. It looks like AA have offers every other month. Unfortunately I just booked our long haul for next year and paid for it because I didn't think I would have my head around the buying points and searching reward availability in time...well not in as much detail as I'd like to know.
