Why $14? Special card promo is $20 back. And you can use the Woolworths from Special for anything, including top up Opal card, which would be $20 off.

So that also doesn't make sense. If you got $20 off, you got $20 off? If you pay $180 for a $200 gift card, you got $20 of free money?

If you use the Special card to buy another gift card, that's a separate issue. Also, you don't need to buy another gift card when there is a purchase fee, you could also buy when they are on promo.

I don't think the calculation should be lumped together. No one is telling you to buy say an EFTPOS gift card when there is a purchase fee, it's your fault (if I could put it this way) that you don't wait until there is an actual promo on the EFTPOS card.

I was just buying the tech card and then used it to buy Apple gift cards directly from Apple for 10% off a new release which is better than risking it with all the fraudulent physical cards with Coles/Woolies deals. But with the Qantas 10x points on Apple gift cards, you're effectively getting 20% off with just a basic redemption and kills this 10% deal to me.

Well, biting the bullet buying a QF premium sale fare ticked that box! So 15.5k points for $5.2K spend (and I should be getting DSC since a needed to rebook).

Plus I already have a $15k / 15k pts to 30 June….Heads spinning trying to keep track…

Actually booked 2x seats, so hoping it triggers this other $15k spend that appeared back in April (from memory). So that would be a nice points haul! Which would take me tantalisingly close to QF PC+, not that it’s a huge use as an exisiting WP.

Swinging back to earlier comments, yes there are a lot of particularly useless cash backs. I might get something decent/relevant every 2mths. I did luck in recently with IHG and AVIS (that coincided with existing bookings - invariably these offers don’t)… However, these bonus points offers have been quite common on my card and a great. Are many others getting them?

Every time one of these (infrequent) overseas offers comes through it just reminds everyone that the card is effectively useless outside of Australia because of the 3% foreign currency fee.
In this case it's really a credit of $31.45, after you subtract the fee.
