New Amex statement credits

Quite like the look of the 3 bonus points/$ offer as it includes the Gold Coast and on first glance, seems to be all locations that would regularly be accepted for Shop Small. Also seems like there's no points cap.

Wonder if buying a voucher would trigger the cash back
Has done previously.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but what about top-up points?

While a $250 voucher might earn me 750+ points, I can spend $279 (receive $40 back to reduce it to $239) and receive a total of 9100 points.

I'm guessing Qantas Wine does not count.

This one looks promising.

Would be funny if this was amexs step towards increasing customer satisfaction and making shop small in the future limited to regional businesses only

I don't think Shop Small will be isolated to regional/rural areas in future, but I do hope they continue running promos to encourage merchants outside major cities to accept Amex.

Amex acceptance without surcharge in metro Sydney has certainly improved in recent times - hell even my local Vietnamese bakery/pork roll outlet now takes it!! (I assume metro areas in other states have made similar progress.)

But once you leave the city it can get very frustrating. On a recent trip to the Hunter Valley I reckon my Amex was turned down at about 50% of the wineries, restaurants and other tourist-driven attractions we went to. Even a bloody hatted restaurant...

I feel like $239 for 9100 points is still a terrible deal, letting the offer expire would be a better option. (personally I'll be using it to reduce the tax component on some international J awards for late 2021)

This gave me a thought. Awards are refundable without penalty until 31 March - reckon Amex would claw back the $60 if I got a refund a few months after the offer closed? 😏

That's a very good point and what I was leaning towards anyway.

I received the credit for shopping at a Woolies Caltex.

Did you receive the confirmation email right after the transaction? I didn't and I purchased fuel at a Woolies Caltex, and the transaction comes up as EG Fuel Co.

All 60 / 10 for me. Shame as 50 / 10 is much easier to use as they sell $50 Starcash cards..

Mine is 50/10....so shall be buying 10 x $50 Starcash gift cards :)
Finally got round to using this offer...bought a combination of Ampol cash and Starcash GCs at $50 denominations. ..effectively 20% off fuel with 3 year expiry :)

Bought 14 * $60 Wish cards from Woolworths Caltex stations. No Amex emails but all credits received.
