New Amex bonus point promos?

Does the specific example really matter? People were paying phone bills $1 at a time. People were making multiple laps in supermarkets buying one item at a time. And some were buying chuppa chups one at a time.
Not it does not really matter.I am just curious as Amex stated at the time that they would act on all such buying patters. And indeed many including myself were supended. It just makes me think now that if Chuppa Cups did happen as stated, and that Amex knows the details, that perhaps they were just supsending people to try and bluff them to not gain what earnt.

I guess it depends what you think was wrong with the promotion. It was designed to be generous and alter peoples behaviour with which card they were using. In this, it seems to have been successful, as people continued to use their cards after the promotion had finished. What they did fail to do was to lock it down to targetted people (and apparently this was simply a checkbox not being ticked in the setup screens)
True. But IMO I don't regard that they go a lot of extra people into the promo as the real problem. If that was the only issue then they would have just had more people uisng their Amex for small tx and encouraging use of the card = all good. Though perhaps more of their marketing budget consumed than planned for.Their most crucial mistake IMO was that it was a reward of 1000 points per tx combined with "no limit to the amount of tx".10 points was probably what it was meant to, possibly 100, but 1000 was crazy...................(not that I will complain!!)PS: Please don't anyone take my comments as having a go at anyone, and certailnly not when it was raised in this thread.I have just learnt that knowledge of the fine print of T&C is often the path to advantage, and was currious about Amex not enforcing what they said they would do. Who knows what future promos will be coming, but the ability to "stretch" them is often where the real bounty can spring from.

I think the main issue with the targetting was that there were three concurrent, quite similar, promotions and the software let you sign up to all of them. That was certainly not supposed to happen.

While there was nothing explicitly stated, there were some new promos coming, not to mention some new software to manage the promo process. I suspect that there will be even more targetted promotions in the future.

Isn't the original question asked, why haven't we got a similar bonus competition this time, especially as they had one in the US this year.. and
they had chance to earn about 30-45k. I can't buy enough fuel to get that type of points at 5 times.

Yes it was and from all the above, it seems pretty clear that next time (or if) they run these sorts of promos there will probably be a points cap as well as a minimum spend per transaction to qualify.....just like the hopscotch promo last year that was, from memory, only inclusive of transactions of $20 or more.

If they run it that way, I can't see them getting burned too badly, although as has also been outlined in previous posts, some folk here are masters at identifying loopholes...

so in reply to the original question, I take it there are no similar transaction offers at present?

Judging by AMEX's utter "fail" from the offers in 2008/9 I would think there is unlikely to be a repeat on the same scale. The most you would get now is a capped 5000 to 10000 point bonus and it would almost definately be targeted

Wish I had an AMEX when the 08/09 promos were running
