AAdvantage have a new bonus miles promotion on where you can earn up to 50% additional miles. Buying 100,000 miles comes with 35,000 bonus points.

The sweet spot seems to be buying 2 lots of 50,000, which comes with 22,500 bonus miles for a total of 145,000 miles. This costs the same price as buying 100,000 but yields 10,000 extra bonus miles.

Out of interest has anyone calculated the cost per mile?

Believe it's 2.14 CPM (USD) this time when buying the 70k (35k bonus, total of 105k)

Last promotion was 2.06 CPM USD.

If you go with the sweet spot I listed above, it works out to be 2.03CPM USD. USD1475/(50000+22500) = 0.0203 :).

i believe the 1475 is prior to taxes

if the 70k is bought with 35k bonus then the cost before taxes is 2065 / 105000 = 1.96CPM

that would work out with a full 50% bonus at 70k purchase rather that a 45% bonus at a 50k purchase
;)

Thankyou to MrOrange. Purchased 120,000 points on this special and just redeemed them for two F tickets QF2 DXB to Sydney in Jan 2016. One ticket had shown as available but not bookable. I checked on FT and read this happened to someone else and kept trying. Finally it clicked through to bookable just as I was trying for the last time before I left work. I'd just tried five minutes earlier! Score.
