"American Airlines Scratch, Match & Win
Official Rules

1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR CLAIM PRIZE. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.

2. TO ENTER. Between 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time ("ET"), November 2, 2006 and 11:59 p.m. ET, December 31, 2006 (the "Promotion Period"), complete an official registration form online at www.aa.com/scratchmatchwin. Administrator’s computer is the official time keeping device for the Instant Win Game. Complete and submit the registration form, including your American Airlines AAdvantage® number. If you are not an AAdvantage member, visit www.aa.com/enroll to sign up for the program. Membership is free and joining does not obligate you to anything. Once you become an AAdvantage member, you will immediately receive an AAdvantage number which you can use to complete the registration form for the Instant Win Game. After you have submitted the completed form, you will be asked several questions. Answer the questions and then follow the directions to advance to the Instant Win Game page and play the Instant Win Game. Your answers do not impact the results of the Instant Win Game. Once on the Instant Win Game page, use your mouse to scratch the gift boxes. If you reveal three (3) of the AAdvantage envelopes in a row, you are a potential winner of the Instant Win Game. The Instant Win Game results will be instantly displayed. Entrants will be notified immediately by email if they are potential winners of the Instant Win Game and will be provided directions for validation. All potential winners are subject to verification before any prize will be awarded. Administrator is responsible for the functionality of the Instant Win Game. Limit: Each participant may play one (1) time per day during the Promotion Period. Multiple participants are not permitted to share the same email address. Any attempt by any participant to obtain more than the stated number of plays by using multiple/different email addresses, identities, registrations and logins, or any other methods will void that participant's plays and that participant may be disqualified. Runs until the end of this year. Technically requires entrants to be residents of the U.S, but not sure if they will enforce it.
According to this text in paragraph 4, they intend to enforce it:
The potential Grand Prize, First Prize and Second Prize winners (parent/legal guardian if a potential winner is a minor in his/her state of residence) will be required to sign and return to Sponsor, with ten (10) days of the date notice or attempted notice is sent, an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability and Publicity Release in order to claim his/her prize and fulfill any such other requirements as determined by Administrator. If any potential winner cannot be contacted, fails to sign and return the Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability and Publicity Release (when applicable) within the required time period, or if any prize, prize notification or attempted notification is returned as undeliverable, potential winner forfeits prize potential winner forfeits prize.
So unless you meet the criteria of "individuals legally residing in the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry", there is little point playing.

Note that this game is not administered by AA, but by a promotions company who I expect would be just looking for valid reasons for declaring a winner ineligible.

I didn't win, but I got a pretty good consolation prize!

For every 10,000 miles I buy between now and 31 Dec, I get another 2,000 miles.

Considering I was planning to buy 40,000 miles anyway, it's a pretty good bonus!

Maybe I should just go ahead and change our profiles to my American family's address. We didn't win anything yet but at least this one goes faster than the shopping bag one.

I believe everyone thaty enters is entitled to the bonus miles of 2k for every 10k purchased

Just for those that may not realise, just like the baggage claim game, there is a fast way through the game by using the "click here if you cannot see the flash" link

So far have managed to win 1000 miles for 2 accounts :)

Sorry if this is OT but what is it with American Airlines and their fixation about blocking out all non-US customers?

6. ELIGIBILITY. American Airlines Scratch, Match & Win (the “Instant Win Game”) is open only to individuals legally residing in the 50 United States....

They like to claim they are the worlds largest airline yet they go out of their way to make it difficult for other nationalities to buy tickets. I wanted to buy some 1st class tickets a couple of weeks back when I was in the US and the only options I had was to either pay over the phone to the UK office (who were going to charge more than $100 extra for this privledge) or go to an AA office in person. I had to drive to the Providence RI airport and pay at the AA ticket counter because they wouldn't accept payment by phone or internet - with the exact same CC. Weird bunch.

No different to any other FFP. Qantas promos are almost all for Australians only, although some include NZ (yay). Air NZ promos are almost all for NZers only, although some include Australia. UA promos are almost all for americans. Etc.

You can pay over the internet for AA with non-US credit card however if the purchase amount is above a certain amount (US$1000?) you need to fax a copy of your credit card to a ticket office (or visit a ticket office) for validation.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My guess it has something to do with licensing requirements as it is classified as a lottery.
Oh I just won 1,000 for the lady and nothing for me. I wonder if it was because I answered 2 for 2 for her and only 1 for 2 for me.

Nope. I got 2/2 each time and no miles yet (been trying each day).

I answered both questions right but the next screen said I got 2 out of 3 correct! Didn't notice a third question anywhere!

Anyway must be my lucky day as I won 1,000 miles. :)

One thing to be aware of, in the rules it says that each member may only win 1 prize during the promotion, so once 1 win has been attained there isn't much point in playing from then on

Thanks. It saves me from having to remember to play the game everyday.

goes further than that - each family may only win once
Well that's that then!

I did play today and noticed the two questions were no longer being asked.

I saw where it says only one email address per account but didn't see where two people with different email addresses can't both win. Where does it say that?

I just won 1,000 points for my son. Has anybody else noticed that in this game, and the previous one, there is a definite delay in the page loading when you win a prize? Looks like it defaults to a winning link or something and the page takes a while to load.

So if your page doesn't load properly don't give up, make sure you clik on the link to get to your prize.
