It just feels the J product on the 737's are a little underwhelming in comparison!

Pretty sure VA still have less variety of J products than Qantas.

Especially out of Perth last year when there were 737-400, 737-800, Int A330, Dom A330, 747 and 767.

The 747 (OJD) and international 330 J product is the same is it not?

Don’t forget there’s a domestic and international configured 767 too ;)

Booked on an a330 Perth to Melbourne on the 17th May in J - might be lucky enough to score one of the new aircraft!

If AJ really does believe that QF has the "best in the world" in the way of aircraft, lounges and network, there really is little hope for QF.

Exactly Qantas' greatest threat is not VA its their own arrogance

I thought the same thing, saw the interview and thought; clueless fool.

On ALL A330 flights (clearly marketed as such on their website) Virgin is going to be offering a consistent seat pitch of around 60" :) and that's on every flight, every day, every time - Simple.

On Qantas A330s it's a gamble, but the most likely scenario (from their inconsistent "Business" product portfolio) is a pitch in the high 30s. (And then you are just hoping to get lucky and score the version with no middle seat, rather than the blocked middle seats. Although, the middle seat gamble will negatively impact Virgin, once their new aircraft enter service, but at least none of them will have a 30-something seat pitch like Qantas does.)

Looking forward to Virgin Australia's A330 domestic evolution from wonderful...

Virgin as it is today, loaded & replete with overhead bins stuffed full of Qantas NGCI bag tags.

...to incredible.

Well done Virgin.
Mr John B seemed to be all class in that brief clip. I think that AJ would definitely feel threatened by Virgins advance into the premium market.

AJ and Qantas need to pull their finger out then and sort their domestic A332's. EBM and EBN are bad enough legroom wise but EBO and EBP are just a joke. Comfortable seats yes but the space between seats is a joke. It was roomier on the 73H!

I happen to score one of them a months ago, PER-SYD, Red Eye. J was more like Y+ ($1500++ one way, published fare...)

Considering they are the Y+ seats, that's no surprise.
Ok.
But to the average joe flying J who might have paid cash, that J class seat would be a surprise l bet...
I would have thought that QF would have replaced these seats by now and have a standardised A330 fleet?

They are the standard domestic J seat. Some of the QF A332's could not be fitted with the Skybed due to the floor I believe. Later aircraft had extra bracing to allow for the weight and mountings.

EBO and EBP don't have the standard J seat, they have the International Y plus seat with different covers, the Skybed issue aircraft are in the JQ fleets where as these were built after some A332 skybeds were delivered and seem to be an experiment gone wrong.

Just to clarify, our newest domestic A330 has been delivered with a new Recaro seat in the Business cabin - EBM/EBN have Sicma seats, whilst EBO has new Recaro seating that utilises technology and functionality developed with our International Premium Economy product. Can confirm that EBP will have this seating as well and it should arrive next month.

Quite possibly an experiment in how far, as a (then) monopoly provider of domestic J, you can squeeze pax until they squeal!

Ah okay. Was not aware of those. That's odd.

I totally agree that they have stuffed up some aspects of the transition (I've cited IFE repeatedly but the initial selling 737-700s as J experiments is another example) but if you want to see the forest and not the trees the big picture is a rapid improvement across all areas of the business that has, at times, been inconsistently applied or communicated. Virgin are a better airline to fly now than 3, 6, 12 or 24 months ago and they getting better all the time in my experience.

I completely understand everyone's frustrations with DJ.

Why is this happening? A couple of 'real earned' DJ golds (before plat was invented) gave their opinion months and months ago that there was a long way to go and DJ were going too hard too early with their marketing and status matches etc If you saw their billboards you would think it was all done and dusted last year!

And look what has happened. They've over promised and under delivered. Why???....

...Because they need cash. And very grudgingly as a shareholder I get that. But they have burnt some bridges in the meantime. Who knows maybe those people will give DJ more of their travel when everything is sorted out.... I mean people have completely forgotten their multiple IT crashes that stranded everyone!

My final point is that what DJ is doing is not great for staff morale. We've seen some posts from DJ regulars that staff are annoyed at having to do more work for the same dollar and less than QF. Personally I've seen a shift in DJ staff becoming much more transactional on flights, throwing everything down then running away to the galley. DJ's advantage with its staff is beginning to erode now and conversely we see QF really stepping up in this area of late and matching it with increased capacity and much better yield management ensuring their pricing is very competitive with DJ.

So my worry (for DJ) is clearly DJ has used up all it's breaks with the FF's, definitely no longer the 'darling' and is facing a re energized QF who is getting fitter and meaner.

Result: Consumer win as DJ battles QF.
My shares result: uncertain!! But I bought them when they were a single silver coin ;)

On topic- the new angled flat looks absolutely fine, I mean it's hardly a work of art, it's off the shelf but it's fine! I'm sure it will do ok with pax. I just hope we don't see the billboards promoting them today ;)
