Took the plunge for me a MrGlider, 50+50 each to get started and looking forward to the next share promo.

However, although I received what looked to be a normal confirmation page at the end of each transaction, the points did not post immediately and no email was received. It's been 24 hours now and I rang USDM, they said it could take up to 48 hours but if still no dice I should contact points.com.

Anyone else have any delays? It's our first ever USDM purchase on shiny new accounts so perhaps they're being scruitinised or something... I checked with the bank and they reckon the transactions did process (citi has a habit of being overprotective when it comes to these kinds of purchases I'm finding, so my first assumption was that we'd been 'protected' from the purchases, however this doesn't seem to be the case).

Anyway, I'll sit tight and not stress too much for another day. I have a screen grab of the confirmation page for one of the transactions for backup, but unfortunately not the other one.

That happens on weekends, it will clear Monday at the latest.

I have had purchases taking up up to 2-3 BUSINESS days! In fact in my case, I've rarely got the points in my account straight away. No idea why though! :-(

I essentially made a dummy account under my mum's name (who never travels) and use that as the account to share miles from my account. We obviously share the same last name which works well.

I first share 50k from my account to her account which leaves 100k in her account, then share back the 50k which gives me 100k in my account. So at the end of the transaction, my account will have 100k and mum's 50k (after starting from 50k in my account and 0 in mum's). Then I wait for the next share promo where I share back the remaining 50k from mum's to mine, leaving me 200k in my account. So my sharing process is 'completed' after 2 share promos each time.

The process is made even easier as my mum is a supplementary card holder to my personal amex card so mum doesn't even need to do anything in terms of payments.

If I had a family of my own (I'm a single guy in my late 20s), I would probably have accounts for each of my wife and kids and do a more complex sharing as explained by some others here (i.e. from Account A -> B -> C -> D -> A).

Thanks, makes sense. I've just had a look at some blogs where they form a complex 10 person sharing ring, ha. You need to have the miles to being with (a startup cost) I guess..

Yep, points and receipts arrived overnight, ~36hrs after purchase. No need for concern after all. I always over-react when spending real money on pretend money and it doesn't do what I expected immediately. :)

I received a confirmation email the next day, although it took 2 days for the points to show in my account.

This buy/gift promotion has been extended until 31 May 2014 so if anyone is interested to buy points, feel free to knock yourself out :D

One thing I found strange with the posting of points after purchase, was my points (with my Amex) showed up in my account literally instantly. When I bought the other half's with her Citi card moments later, it took about 3 days for her points to show.

Maybe it depends on the credit card??

I have always used my Amex to buy miles - sometimes they show immediately, other times can be 48 hours or more.
For me, direct purchases seem to go straight through but gifting or sharing miles always seems to take longer - it might be a case of a manual check if miles are going to a different account other than the purchasers or it may just be the 15 hour time difference and weekends getting in the way.

I think that there is some sort of risk assessment done, if they are not same name or address and/or new accounts and/or multiple transactions same card they are referred for manual review. If a review then weekend certainly slow it down.

But who really knows, this is just based on my experience plus readining many reports of the type of transactions which tacke some time to post.

Always used AmEx, rarely got the points straight away.

There was a funny bug in their system - I bought very close to the end of the promo, about 11:15PM Pacific Time. The website and receipt all said 100% bonus miles but only the base miles credited.... The call centre tried to say it wasn't a mistake because it was 1 Jun where they were... In any event, points.com sorted it out quickly after I filed a support ticket.....
