OK just got carried away by clicking the link and seeing buy, gift and share.
Back to school for me.

Hi. I am not really up to date with all these changes, have had a quick look at Flyertalk but still somewhat confused.

I am thinking of buying miles now (I have 4 Dividend Miles accounts, one for each family member) but dont want to travel until December 2015. Is it worth it? I dont mind booking in December 2014 or earliest possible for Dec 2015.

Also, in the past I used my Dividend Miles to fly (business class) from Australia to USA on Asiana via Seoul. What would be the equivalent now with the Oneworld airlines? I realise that getting 4 Bus class tickets on Qantas from Sydney to LAX in December is highly unlikely/near impossible.

There is no harm to buy, I just bought 45000+45000 for AUD1885, although there is a rumor said the award chart will increase significantly after 1 June, I believe it will only affect F redemption. Getting 4 J tickets in OW at the same time is very unlikely indeed, but it's possible in SA.

Why would it only affect F redemption? If and when it happens it's likely to be broad based.

Anecdotally, the one controversial change US recently made (US - North Asia) only affected J class...F wasn't changed.

Not anecdotally, the chart is published!

F only 10K more than J for North America to North Asia.

There are always "rumours" of devaluations. Many are eventually true but you could also spend years in waiting. I think they may adjust this particular issue but that does not necessarily means they will adjust more widely.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You still don't say why you think any devaluation will only affect F...makes no sense to me.

Doesn't have to be in sense, F&J are always the target for devaluation of points. The most recent example-United airlines.

Kinda want to get on this time around because I've nothing left in my DM accounts to participate in the next share promotion. Thinking of perhaps just buying 30k to qualify for the 100% and waiting for the next share.

But I've no plans of using miles in the near future, which is a bit of a worry when there's rumors of these devaluations. I got a personal travel on some oneworld carriers planned during 2H this year as a bid to requalify CX DM (work is all on SQ) which I can probably use the DM miles instead to travel in F, but that means I'll have to give up on requalifying with CX so I'm torn as to what to do.

I actually don't think it's a difficult choice. If you have a reward in mind and need points, then now is your opportunity.

If you are just stockpiling, and can afford to wait, then hold off for another share promo.

I've stockpiled 500000 points. might have got a bit carried away....Devaluation is always a possibility hot ever i don't think id ever end up more than 50% of the usual fare.

Family has 1m points but there are 4 of us (plus my two sisters) so not that hard to use and most were via the share promo, which is hard to turn down!

Can someone explain the share promotion to me and how it works, how often it arises, etc?

Share is just like the buy/gift but you get up to a 100% bonus when you share miles, which is a lot cheaper to do than buying outright.

So if I choose to share 50k for example, I loose 50k but the receiving account gets 100k so you are essentially doubling the miles. Costs around $600 AUD for 1 share so if you share your 50k then share back from the other account, you've generated 100k miles for around $1200 AUD which is a bit cheaper than buying outright of around $2000 AUD.

As for when the next share promotion will come, no idea...
