Need 10000 QF points real quick

Excellent idea until I realised that I am going to spend next 3 hours at checkout with like 10 trolleys of Woolworths goodies .... Besides I don't have a truck to carry all the goods home ....:mrgreen:

Actually would buying gift cards work as well? Not that I want to have $5000 gift card as I could just lose it

Hmmm, I have heard that Qantas is relatively lax with their definition of relative - as long as you don't abuse the system or show a history of similar behaviour.

Their definition is pretty lax - so perhaps you can find someone who matches up with their definition.

Do you have any Hhonors points? Priority Club points? Amex MR points? Not going to be very cost effective but if you are desperate for the points then

33,334 HHonors points --> 5,000 QFF points

25,000 Priority Club points --> 5,000 QFF points (can purchase 25,000 Priority Club points for USD287.50 = ~AUD383)

If you get really desperate then you can also try

1,000 Amex MR points --> 1,000 HHonors points
1,000 Amex MR points --> 600 Priority Club points

Purchasing points from Priority Club is probably the less painful option as it does not require a mileage run or a mattress run.

And may actually be feasible for me .... I have 31K HH points, 56K PC points, and my better half has 500K Amex MR points to play with ....

Actually I can even technically purchase 25K PC points for 150USD by doing Cash + Points redemption and then cancel ......

Now I need to work out which is the best way to convert to 5000 points ......

Hmmm, I have heard that Qantas is relatively lax with their definition of relative - as long as you don't abuse the system or show a history of similar behaviour.

Their definition is pretty lax - so perhaps you can find someone who matches up with their definition.

I have always used the "we are one" method of deciding who is related to me for the purpose of points transfers.

Partner Hotels - 1,000 points per stay* Conrad Hotels
Hilton
Hyatt Hotels and Resorts

Hire a car for 700 points per rental outside Australia.

I thought about it ..... But i had bad experiences where it take months for hotel stays and car hire to post their points ......

I did spend like 6K on my wedding reception 2 years ago plus 1K in alcohol/drinks ..... Not much by other people's standards, but hey that was the most expensive dinner I have ever spent ....

I don't think I can even spend that much in Tetsuyas (not that it is in the Qantas list) unless I decide to shout AFF elite members to a dinner party.

Not sure about that but I did it earlier when I use 180USD to buy 30K points using Cash + Points then cancel and then use those points to buy a 250USD AnyHotel Anywhere card ....

I love the innovative mind of the AFF community. Look at all these great suggestions. Some are really 'cool' ($1666 for a great night out - I'd like to see exactly how one could spend that much on the bill, unless you had a big party! $1000 worth of flowers might just clean out a florist).

If I may be a wet blanket, I think something that might have escaped consideration is time, i.e. the lag required between spending and the points appearing in the account. A good deal of the approaches here can get points in a FF account within a handful of business days, but some of the others as we've found can take a week or two (or more!).

I think I would go with the 10 Qantas flights option,you could do that in 3 or 4 days without too much hassle and they should be credited to your account quite quickly.

If you wanted those points in a hurry, that would probably cost you an arm and a leg, since the likelihood of finding very cheap Red e-Deals within a week of flying (let alone days) is pretty slim. Plus you'll need a bit of time on your hands, or fake a good sickie, or tell the boss that you're gonna be on the road for a bit

Get a Woolworths Everyday Rewards card and link it to your QF FF account. Then purchase $5030 worth of something you will use in the future and is not perishable, such as laundry detergent, toilet paper, or any other product that meets your needs.

Remember that you can bu from the liquor department too.

Also pre-paid phone vouchers can be bought.

I think we've missed that the OP actually only needs 5000 points. Unfortunatley there are no Qantas sales atm, however if one pops up then 6 (given he wants to get home!) x SYD-CBR/MEL-CBR/BNE-ROK/ADL-MEL @ $69 each is only $414.

Even outside of sale times, 6 x SYD-MEL is only $534 right now. Might be the easiest way to do it.

get a family member to send you a paypal request

then you pay that with your CC - and gain points on that

the main issue will be that it might be counted as a cash advance - but if not you are going to forfeit 3% to paypal

other choices - you could purchase cash for your trip -(it was overseas right??) and pay by CC - it is BPay though

again you would have to check

edited - I notice you mentioned no linked CC -is it possible a family member has one?

Really appreciated with all of these ideas .... A lot of innovative ideas that I didn't even think of.

I also have been privately offered to be "relatives" which I most appreciated because that is something I did not expect .... You know who you are

I will most likely taking the Amex or HH or PC transfer method to get the QFF points as I do have those points available and some are sitting around doing nothing at the moment.

As a matter of twist, now my better half is thinking not to change the plan after all, even though now we could do it (to extend our trips to Prague and Austria) .... Yes I know, my better half always changing minds :shock:

Don't forget, its not just Woolworths where you can earn points too.. Big W and **** Smith too. So maybe you could go and buy a new lawn mower, CD's, clothing, laundry supplies etc from Big W and a dirty big 60" LCD from **** Smith - problem solved
