My first flight in FIRST by QANTAS was such a let-down, it certainly won't happen again!

It depends when your upgrade comes through I guess.

In that case it came through about a week prior. I got another up grade on the same route a month later and got the call and mentioned that I didn't get it the last time ( how I remember the first episode :))

My absolute worst F experience was the time they brought me a glass for my pre-takeoff champagne and then never came back with the bottle to fill it

We have had 2 upgrades to QF F and one lot of awards in QF F.Yet to receive a telephone call re the spa.

The boarding process seems strange given the design of the A380 gates.
Normally multiple people checking boarding passes and at least one labelled for the premium cabins only.

But as mentioned up thread, maybe this only switches after they have boarded most of the rear.

Fly EK recently in 1st class on points and got 1st class services as I was the only one in the 1st class section....:). Qantas is good for arriving safely. If you want anything else fly another airline. 4 pilots on the Joberg - Sydney 747 flight. One was an ex air force pilot / Tiger pilot who wasn't allowed to take off or land, amazing. I love Qantas.

I'll post this here ....

My first flight in FIRST by QANTAS was such a let-down, it certainly won't happen again.

QF1 on A380 .....

You think they'd call pax in the F lounge .... no, they didn't.

You'd think they'd call for F pax to board first .... no, they didn't.

You'd think that after holding a 'Mexican stand-off' at the gate, advising, that if I wasn't one of the first on ....I WILL BE THE LAST ON ..... and I will stand here and wait for the very last boarding call, and then 'stuff around' looking for my boarding pass !!! ......... that I would get some attention ????
( this was DURING the flood of economy pax boarding ).

I wasn't even asked if I wanted my suit jacket hung up .... much less offered 'compensation' of a bottle of something .....

QANTAS First ???

Never again. I've been far better treated on Emirates Business.

I’m going to ignore the hyperbole. FWIW I don’t think it helps to highlight some of the genuine service failures you may have experienced.

1.You were on an Award ticket in F SYD-SIN and did not get a pre-booking at the Spa which is usually made by the First Host the day prior to departure.

2.You did not receive a pre-boarding invitation or hear the boarding call for QF 1 whilst you were in the F Lounge.

3.When you got the the boarding gate, Y boarding was underway and it was unclear where and what priority line you were supposed to have been in with the staff at the gate not acquiescing to your appeals for attention as an F pax.

4.Onboard the FA didn’t ask if you would like your jacket to be hung up.

5. Nobody offered you any compensation by way of a free bottle of bubbles etc.

1. I know others have responded that they too have failed to get a call. This has never happened to me on any of my flights.
It’s a definite service failure providing you had your current mobile phone contact in the booking. Have you checked this ? Sometimes with Award tickets only the bare minimum is put in (eg. FF number missing, old or no contact).

2. I do not believe it’s a service standard for F to offer pre-boarding. It would be on request to the F Host. I am surprised that you did not hear a boarding call for QF1. IME the flights are always called when I’m the lounge. Perhaps you left prior to this? The Board may have been updated saying “Boarding” but the lounge not yet called the flight.

3. As others mentioned, the Priority OWE/ First Boarding lane is fairly clearly marked and at SYD there is a separate air bridge for F pax.
If you have missed this and end up in the general Y line then you need to suck it up.
At MEL you sometimes need to do this anyway as they don’t always have a separate air bridge for F.

4. Were you wearing the jacket onboard ?
IME the trigger to have my jacket hung up is me taking it off when they come around to greet me, offer Champagne and amenities. If I’m wearing it I wouldn’t expect anyone to ask to hang it. Even if they failed to ask me (very common in Domestic J unless you are a Middle Aged Male) I find asking politely as the FA passes by my seat usually successful.

5. Compensation for all of the above ?
I would expect exactly nothing, I’m afraid. I don’t know how the crew onboard could or should be expected to make up for any of the pre-boarding issues.

I’d send an email to customer care regarding the service failure for F Host Contact. If they had your phone they should have called.
As for the rest of it, I would take it all in good grace.
Give QF F another chance it may well surprise you.
(Same as EK surprised me when they served an entire J cabin their breakfast and forgot mine so offered me the leftover dish I didn’t order but I digress......)

Like many here - I've always received the phone call the day before departure, and I've never not heard the flight being called in the lounge. The boarding process works fine, you just need to position yourself in the correct queue and walk on - it's sign posted well enough IMO.

I've seen plenty of frustration at boarding gates.... it never works out all that well. Best to stay calm, carry on and get on board.

Whilst it’s a travesty no-one offered to hang your coat - condolences, 99.99% of the population will never get near the first class cabin of any plane, let alone the Qantas First lounge

My heart would break for you but it’s already been crushed by sitting in 6B on a Jetstar flight today

Seriously?
Get over it....
First world problems.

1. If they didn't make the phone call - you could have called them. No skin of your back.
2. Boarding - there is a separate entrance for F like others have said - should have used that and if you had to board with the general population, i don't see the big deal but maybe it was.
3. Coat - could have just asked

But acting precious and wanting to be the centre of the universe doesn't usually help. In fact I find the opposite.

I'm glad that many get the service QF advertise but as I said we are 0/3 getting a call for a spa appointment.
And they have both our phone numbers as we both do receive SMS messages re delayed flights etc.
Maybe TKWIA and don't like the things I say.I doubt it and is just more evidence of the inconsistency of QF and why we do not fly them internationally unless we have to.
