there are different mileage options as well - I am finding BGI as a useful transit location - ppartly because I am happy to get to the UK via LGW as I have family down that side of LON or cn transit to Cyprus through LGW.
Hey just to clarify - you got AA miles/EQPs for BA TATL flights Carribean to LGW yea? I know Canada-UK and Mexico-UK are ok but I'm not sure about the Carribean.

Yes you do. It is only the transatlantic flights between the US and UK that are ineligable for miles

Kewl - something to think about if I don't want to keep flying AA or go to Canada.

Fantastic advice.
I will definatley make the changes to the North American segment, a great idea.
Simongr the SWP section was just meant to be as a holiday a few months after the first bout of flights...but I take your point :)

Thanks again all will post a revised itinerary shortly

If its a holiday - go and enjoy it :) I do fly for a reason - not just to accrue miles you know ;)

Just maybe dont burn 4 flights on it :)

Choose your itinerary on where you want to go; points are a side benefit of the travel , don't try turning them into the reason

While looking at flight options in my American leg I realised that quite of few of the journeys had the option of a plane with genuine busines class, or a flight with just first and economy.
Reading previous posts it appears that on a DONE4 you will get put into first if there is no business class on these flights. I guess this raises three questions for me.
1. Is this always the case or do you run the risk of being downgraded to economy?
2. If you are in first on an AA flight(codeshare with QF) do you get first class status credits?
3. How comfortable are the AA first seats (obviously not as nice as the genuine business class as they are much smaller)

As always your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Paulcut,

From my understanding:

1. You are confirmed at booking into A class, but you will need to ensure when you book that A class is available. If not, then you will either be booked into L class or you can choose another flight. If there is A class though, you will be confirmed and it is extremely unlikely you will be bumped and this would be for operation reasons (ie. change to a smaller aircraft).
2. You earn F status credits if seated in First.
3. Not quite sure, never had the chance to try them. Do check out some of the trip reports, I believe NM makes reference to them in his BNE-BNE the long way thread.

Hope this helps,

Paulcut,

1. Correct, you get confirmed in 'A' class.
2. Agree, you earn F status credits if seated in First.
3. Seats are big enough, just well worn leather that looks a little tired. Typical of all/most domestic AA cabins.

Just one reminder also to avoid the MD80 series where possible as they also have no IFE at all.

To the best of my knowledge it's ALL MD80 series (incl MD83) and I don't believe there is any power.

Wonderful isn't it :?:

Got a pretty definitive answer on the phone with AA NRT yesterday:
- If the ticket has 16 segments or less (including surface segments) - it is eticketable and you'll be able to pay and issue the ticket over the phone.
- Otherwise it'd be paper ticketed and you'll have to rock up to pay at AA's NRT ticketing counter and issue the ticket there. They will extend ur ticketing deadline until you arrive. Oh and allow "hours" for the ticket to be written out by hand...

I thought that there was power - just not in the exTWA birds? Or is that the 76x ?

IN relation to the seats - I find them comfortable but I do prefer th pitch in real business class.

I used a power adapter last night from seat 3F and a S80, and on a 763 yesterday.

'Tis the car cigarette lighter type.

Thanks serfty.

More than happy to be proved wrong on this one.

Just a follow up - it is teh ex-TWA MD80s that dont have inseat power.
...
This was true in 2004; these days it's "The ex-TWA MD80s did not have inseat power, but have since been renconfigured and now do".

There's a contemporary reference in FT here: MD-80 vs. MD-83

Cheers ...
