I've taken empty water bottles through LAGs checks many times. And then filled them up afterwards to take on the flight.

I suspect it's OK as long as there is no LAG at all in the container?

I'm just surprised they even found it in MNL! My experience at the gate LAGS check they didn't even spot my liquid containers in my carry on suitcase. They literally just opened the lid and didn't look under a single thing in my bag. Was a complete joke that check.

No issues with my thermos out of Perth this morning. The guy at the x-ray asked if it was empty, held it for all of a second and off I went.

So it passed in Perth. Would it pass in Singapore?

My thinking is with SIN being particularly diligent, empty containers over 100mL would be a no but I'm unable to find anything online.

Was Singapore one of them, by chance?

I did find this old news article that suggests it would be okay: "If you have a water bottle, empty it out as you can refill it after security checks" (Breezing through airport security).

Yes. But if I recall correctly the problem in SIN was once we were in the final "corral" there was no-where to fill them.

That is unusual - normally there are water fountains in each of the post security gate lounges cages (at least those in T1).

I couldn't recall exactly (as I eluded to), I do recall a couple of the airports I've been through with the final corral arrangement (e.g. SIN, KUL, NBO etc etc) had no water source.

Edit: Slightly off topic. Hong Kong was frustrating. We went through security with empty bottles OK. Got into the final corral arrangement and refilled. Then, on boarding the plane got stopped in the raceway(stairway) to the plane and a hand luggage search was done on all passengers for LAG and our water bottles confiscated

I think you can blame the Australian Government for that traveller-friendly gem. I saw the same happen in Jakarta recently.
