If you want to complain to the ombudsman you need to complain internally first. I’d be doing now, they have told you they are changing, now’s the time to complain about that change.
Not overly confident of your likelihood of success however have always found the threat of going to ombudsman always gets action (they have to pay if you complain to the ombudsman, that might explain why).
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve just lodged my complaint with My Card customer support (with help from ChatGPT) and requested a full refund of my fees.

To the MyCard Customer Service Team,
I am writing to lodge a formal complaint regarding the changes to my MyCard Prestige account ending in xx_X, effective 1 October 2026, as outlined in your email.
I renewed this card in May 2026 and paid the full annual fee of $700. At no point during that renewal was I informed that the card would be downgraded to a MyCard Premier product just months later, with a significant reduction in benefits. Had I known this was planned, I would not have renewed.
Since renewing, I have not had a reasonable opportunity to use or enjoy the benefits I paid for. The benefits being removed or reduced, including the Uber Premier cashback, the Luxury Stay 4th Night on Us benefit, and the complimentary lounge pass entitlement, were central to my decision to renew at that price point.
I note that you are proposing only a pro rata refund of the difference between the old and new annual fee. Given that the product I paid for in May is effectively being withdrawn and replaced with a materially inferior one before I have had a fair chance to use it, I do not consider a partial refund to be a reasonable resolution. I am requesting a full refund of the $700 annual fee paid in May 2026.
I would appreciate a written response confirming how this complaint will be handled and the timeframe for resolution. If this matter cannot be resolved satisfactorily, I will consider escalating this complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
Please treat this as a formal complaint for your records.
Regards,
