What is the most sightseeing accomplished in the least amount of time. For me it was when I went to Italy for a meeting in 1995,I was there for 3 days most of the time in meeting, so on my way to Fiumicino, I had the taxi go via the Colosseum, Pantheon , Vatican and the Spanish steps all in about 1. 1/2 hours

Thank god, I have been back and take time to look around since, but what was your sightseeing accomplishment?

Two nights in NYC in a side trip from London. We were non stop - Empire State Building, Ellis Island, Broadway show, bars, Bronx, Ground Zero, Brooklyn etc etc. quite ridiculous, and we can't wait to go back and do a decent job.

We did Paris in a day...flew in early in the morning, jumped on the hop on hop off bus & we did the entire route, including getting off at Eiffel Tower (yes, we went up), Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc De Triomphe, Louvre (it was a Wednesday so open until later). We got back to the hotel intending to have a short rest then go for dinner...fell asleep and didn't wake up until the next morning...we were that knackered!

DC in a day and managed to even take in a White House tour (Scheduled well in advanced and was the purpose of the trip to DC)
6:55AM - Arrive at DCA on a flight from LGA
7:30AM - Cab from DCA arrives at Lincoln Memorial, giving me time for a brisk walk up the mall taking in the Reflecting Pool, Vietnam Vets Memorial, Constitution Gardens, WW II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial. (There was probably more but they are ones I remember off the top of my head)
9:10AM - Dropped my backpack at hotel (St Regis) and grabbed a quick bite to eat. Bags and cameras are not allowed in the White House and that is the only reason I even stayed the night in DC, I never travel without my cameras so I needed a hotel room to leave my cameras in.
9:40AM - Arrived at the White House for the tour
10:45AM - Left the White House grounds, went back up to hotel to grab my camera gear.
11:25AM - Arrived at the Washington Memorial, didn't go up due to time.
11:45AM - Arrived at the Air and Space Museum, touched the moon rock and ran back out.
12NOON - Arrived at the Capitol Building, walked around outside and left.
12:45PM - Arrived at the Newseum, stayed until at least 3:30PM, had lunch there.
~4:00PM - Taxi over to Arlington National Cemetery, walked around for about an hour.
~5:00PM - Arrived back at my hotel, got room service and fell quickly asleep.
9:00AM (The following day) - Back on a flight from LGA-DCA.

Was a very busy day with a lot of walking but it was great!

Not sure how many people here would have the chance to join a Chinese whirlwind tour of Europe... 10 countries in 9 days, type of things. The next time I'm heading to Europe for a holiday, I think I'll need twice as much time to do half as much just to sightsee properly (and I mean sightsee rather than travelling).

I managed the Southern Alps in NZ in about five minutes, whilst on QF17. Certainly saved me the bother of actually going to NZ.

:p

Last week we got a nice view of Mt Fuji as we hurtled past doing 300km/h on the Nozomi to Kyoto. We did Kyoto as a day trip from Tokyo.....managed to see a fair bit considering it's 476km from Tokyo one way or 952k's return trip.....took just over 2 hours each way.

The price of the tickets were a little eye watering:shock: but worth every Yen.

I did LA in 4 hours whilst waiting for a flight at LAX in a hire car. Almost missed the flight home when i got stuck in LA traffic on the freeway ( literally not moving).

Any of the coach tours around Europe cram in a lot of sightseeing in the one day.

I have done a Contiki tour of Western Europe in 1994 and a Cosmos tour of Central Europe in 2007. Looking to do another tour this time Scandinavia and the Baltics some time soon.

I visited 5 countries in one day in June.

I flew out of LHR in the morning, arriving into ZHR. I rented a car, then drove to Liechtenstien, where I had a quick look around Vaduz, including a drive up to the castle, and stopped for lunch in McDonalds in Triesen. Then I drove north into first Austria, and then Germany, along the coast of Lake Constance. Finally, I drove back to ZHR, dropped off the car, took the train into town and found my hotel. I finished up the evening by accosting some strangers on the street, who did happen to be attending the same conference I was, and we had a few beers.

So, perhaps not a lot of traditional sightseeing, but lots of scenery on the drive to/from LIechtenstien, and my personal record for number of countries in one day.

While seeing something for 5 minutes is better than not at all, to "do" or "experience" a place takes a bit more time.
I call this "tagging" not "touring". I am not against it and have done it but would prefer more time at most places I visit.
Tagging can lead to more touring later on in many cases.
I have done the Contiki bus tours, many people slept through entire countries...

And still probably can't remember going on the tour except throwing up for a few days and having a large smile :)

When I used to reside in Switzerland, sometimes I used to often go to Paris for the day, just for a look & a nice train ride, or other days when not venturing around the mountains, down to Milan for some shopping & pasta therapy.. :D
I miss all of it.

Oh, my idea of heaven. If I lived in Switzerland, nothing on earth could make me emigrate from there! I only wish I could citizenship there.
