Most airports challenge

Haven't seen a 'most done' thread recently, so here's one that occurred to me as I updated my flight tracker.

What are your top 5 countries in respect of ( edited to add: different) airports flown into/out of (transits included), and numbers for each? (For the sake of argument, lets call it a 'country' if it enters into the Olympic Games and group a 'territory' into its Olympic country).

I reckon @Kiwi_Flyer or @leadman will have some impressive stats! but here's mine:

USA 23 (most airports in a state: Alaska and Nevada, 3 each )
Australia 18
Canada 11
Chile 8
Turkey 5
TOTAL: 65

My top five isn't interesting enough to mention, but I'm at 33 for Japan.

Pretty sure Myanmar hasn't bid for an Olympics yet, but its my most travelled in and out of country

Would probably number in the early 100's I think. Yangon, Myeik are the highest there.

Thailand similar. Possibly more than Myanmar actually. Showing 101 for Don Mueang, less for Swampy and coughet.

My Openflights isn't complete, a lot of flights missing from my early years up here late 90's onwards

I was a bit surprised to hear that Japan has at least 33 airports, so I googled it and apparently there are 98!

I'm not usually keen on these sort of threads but am pleased that it spurred me into looking back on my trips. (Particularly on a miserable wet day in Melbourne. I'm not in the slightest bit paranoid but I do fear the weather has been caused by Sydneysiders. )

That devolves to 29 countries:

There is a possibility that Japan should be higher but my mum can't remember what flights she took us on as infants

183 different airports in total.

Top 5 countries:

Australia: 58
New Zealand: 28

If Europe were included, it would be at 26.

Hey @RooFlyer, I just remembered a few extra airports. Are we counting ones where I've only done touch and go's or landed but just taxi'd back to the runway? Or do I need to have gotten out of the aircraft?

Australia: 22ish*, but just a smattering in other countries.

*Edit: And probably double that if offshore facilities were to count.

Hey @RooFlyer, I just remembered a few extra airports. Are we counting ones where I've only done touch and go's or landed but just taxi'd back to the runway? Or do I need to have gotten out of the aircraft?

Just travelled into it or out of it on an aircraft is what I'm counting, although I think Kinshasa is the only place that I haven't gotten out and walked around (and a very good reason for that!).
