Mixed class redemption

Hello all!

I've currently got a J redemption SIN-MEL and looking at changing it to BKK-MEL. There's no longer J seats available on the BKK-SIN leg but I'm ok to take this flight in Y.

Given the zones are the same, the miles required should technically be at the same rate right? I had assumed I'd just pay the change fee and any applicable taxes. However SQ agent is trying to charge me for the extra economy leg, citing they can't do a redemption at different fare class. Has anyone had success adding a mixed class fare afterwards?

Yes I have done a J mixed with F at F Advantage rates.

However, recently I have had issues with agents saying a particular award flight is only available for new bookings and cannot be added to an existing booking.

Ah, well that's not promising. I guess we'll just purchase commercial flights for that sector. Thought I'd give it a go.

Although, the SQ agent seemed to indicate it was ok if all was in business. Issue was with adding the economy.

i've flipped a redemption before no issues - initially SYD-SIN-BKK and flipped to to BKK-SIN-SYD no issues. Just paid the change fee.

however, i was booked all in J no mixed class.
