I think we are all happy for a good experience in uncertain stressful times - whether or not they are just doing their job (which many barely do)

I've just cancelled an EK flight for a full refund, online, with no cancellation fee... Not hard

Yeah.

What the policies (conveniently) leave off is pax rights under UK/EU261. And the right to rerouting as soon as the flight is cancelled.

The carriers, perhaps understandably, want pax to rearrange their travel voluntarily, or get refunds.

But if you are in the EU/UK and need to get home, just stand your ground and if the flight is cancelled, they’ll get you home.

It seems from various reports (eg The Australian) that the number of rockets and drones being fired from Iran has reduced by over 80%. I expect that is one of the key reasons there are more flights in the area, and if the trend continues will see more normal programming soon.

My view is that it only takes one to hit something, either well aimed or just lucky. If that happened, I think most bets would be off for a while.

Excellent. The issue in our case is that it was booked through my Amex account so it is not cancellable directly via EK.

Re: Amex travel. Yes it is an EK policy but I think it is good service that they reached out to me quite in advance of the travel dates.

Understand…. but there are a lot of folk in Europe looking to get home. The published policies are a little ‘light on’ in some cases, and by some airlines

Oh 100% - Cheaper for airlines to encourage customers to cancel on their own accord!

Hi appreciate there are lots of questions on here and our travel is not until the first week in May but looking for some general info.

I booked classic award fares for the following

First class Melb to Dubai, stop over three days and then business class to Dublin. Both with Emirates

Own arrangements

Then

CDG to Singapore June with Air France, stop over three days business class

Singapore to Melbourne with Jetstar. Business class

Q …. Can I cancel the first two legs with Emirates but keep the remaining flights.

I doubt I would get any further reward flights from Melbourne to say London or Dublin but maybe in economy. And also looking at one way paid fares to London and onto Dublin.

I do not intend cancelling yet as everyone has advised not too, but wanted a back up,an, just in case.

Stand to lose accommodation costs in Dubai booked through Lux Escapes too, not sure if our travel insurance will cover that, but Loki g into it.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You should be able to cancel the first two legs and keep the return.

If flights are up and running you’ll likely lose your accommodation costs in Dubai, unless Lux Escapes has some sort of waiver.

If the flights aren’t running, LE should have a mechanism to refund your accommodation. If not, you could check your insurance policy, but they won’t usually cover anything to do with war.

SQ looks like it’s the most expensive out of all for the coming month. They seem to have bumped up pricing significantly and they will still sell every seat.

Good Value still in some Chinese operators.

The Qatar Airways app didn't allow it initially, telling you to contact them, which was almost impossible. I kept checking the app, and after a few days it became possible. I have now received refund.

I then booked Air France ICN-CDG after buying Air France/Flying Blue miles, for around $2,000.

Not the best value but it's still getting me to CDG next week in reasonable comfort. I can sleep anywhere

VN might also be a decent option.
They sometimes have some great prices and if you book in Y you can pay about $700 for the sky sofa which gives you the whole row plus Premium Economy amenities and food.

Worst case the cancel fee should be 5,000 points per passenger if you end up cancelling.

6,000 points per person if you cancel. 5k per person is the fee for a change.

Thanks everyone who has replied, I have enough points to book for two from Melbourne to LHR, one way - if I can keep my return flights as my first post , Q. can I hold two reward bookings for the same /similar dates and then cancel the one I don’t need nearer the departure date, I just need a back up and lucky enough to have the points to do another booking. Any downside apart from the 6000 point deduction on cancelling ? And flying in economy instead of first.
