Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

I wonder when all this war dies down, whether people will still want to transit in middle east in the next 12 months? I flew QR J via DOH in Dec/Jan and had a great experience. However, it seems too much of a risk travelling via ME in the near future.

I wonder how it will impact ME3? I wonder if ME3 will have super sales and discount redemptions to build confidence again?

Australians tend to have short memories and prioritise their holiday if leisure travellers.

One problem in travelling via Asia is that some hubs (ICN, HND-NRT are three) tend to have expensive Australia-UK/Europe fares. Going through MNL and CGK tends to be cheapest, as discussed on AFF. BKK isn't bad but somewhat more expensive. Via DPS could be an option.

Perhaps the greater impact will be from Europeans who decide due to cost of rising airfares and being risk averse to not travel the long distance to Australia.

Remains to be seen but you may be correct about the ME3 in time having big sales. I wouldn't rule this out.
 
My attention now turns to Seat Daughter and her family’s flights to the wedding. They just told me that they were booked on Virgin (QR) flights CBR-DOH-CPT and return for the wretched wedding departing 21 March. Apparently Virgin’s position is that they will advise whether the flight is cancelled 48hrs before time and if it is will refund. That seems pretty shoddy to me, but Seat Daughter says that is the position they told her when she enquired.

Does anyone know more about that - it’s specifically the Virgin flights via Doha, not QR directly.

So now I am hunting flights for them. Feel like I should be on a commission here!

QF SYD/PER - JNB as an option?

Also could use MRU in Mauritius too. They connect to PER from memory.

No but to be fair this was one of the arguments from QF, that we need Australian carriers in situations just like these.

ME3 might have excelled during Covid but that’s all being undone now.

VA/QR did their share of lobbying to get their deals approved so careful where you throw stones.

And yes @elanshin thats exactly what I’m looking at. My run of failure on getting award seats released on QF continues although I guess 3 seats is a big ask, even if they are in Y. So now we are looking at replacing fares that were $2200 per person with ones that are well over $3,000 per person. And maybe more as we need to get ones we could cancel in the unlikely event the Virgin flights actually operate.

Thanks for the fast replies either way helpful info. I’m over stressed at the moment and not thinking straight.
 
Have Perth - Dubai - London on emirates leaving Perth 31st March returning on Qantas 17th April London - Singapore - Perth all in business. Pretty resigned to having to cancel.
Have Cathay Pacific for same dates on hold until Monday morning when I have to pull the trigger.
$8500, Premium Economy Perth - HK, - London, Business on the way back.
Was going to wipe the trip if I would have had to sit in economy for so long My back and my lack of patience with humanity wouldn't last that long.

Or get yourself to Melbourne and do Royal Brunei return to London in business for $6500. Dry airline, but flat beds the whole way.
 
Emirates operations update:
