MH Pulling out of BNE?

I just called them and my flight BNE-KUL in Sep was indeed cancelled. It was a J points redemption. They were wonderful and have rebooked me via SYD and have booked us on Qantas class C (business) from BNE-SYD, all at no extra charge. Really wonderful service, I was very impressed.
My only concern is that the flight they have booked me on does not appear on their website. MH140 on Sep 18, leaving SYD at 2140. When I search the MH website for SYD-KUL on Sep 18, the only flight that appears is MH122 leaving at 1350. MH 140 exists on their website on Sunday Sep20, but not Fri Sep 18. Should I be worried about that? Why would that flight not be available for sale on their website?

For example, in May it ceased flying to the US by dropping its service to Los Angeles. Malaysia Airlines will, however, continue flying to London. The shake-up of the company’s route network means it is looking to sell two of its six Airbus A380 superjumbos. To further reduce costs, Malaysia Airlines is planning to renegotiate key contracts, including those with airports.

Thank for the link re getting rid of the 2 A380s, although not entirely accurate article. I think they meant that MH stopped flights to FRA in May. The flights to US finished on Apr 30 2014 (and announced in Jan 2014 - before MH370).

I can't find the link right now but in briefing I am sure it was also indicated that CDG would be downgauged to 777. AF pulling out of the route later this year may help.

Why would that flight not be available for sale on their website?

Perhaps because the flight is zero in all classes due to accommodating pax from the cancelled BNE flight?

Thanks for your help bcworld. I was wondering that, but wouldn't they still want to make seats available for sale, even a few extra revenue seats would be good for them.

They can't if the plane is full though! Remembering that in addition to the BNE flight, they have also cancelled a SYD flight.

MH141 KUL-SYD 18 September 0900-1915 (which will form your outbound) is showing in the reservation system and available for purchase. So I'd say you're good to go.

Thanks MEL_Traveller, I really appreciate you looking for me. The 9 am flight is the one I can see on their website but that isn't my flight. Mine is the overnight flight MH140 leaving at 2140. Can you see that one?
Thanks again!!!

The 2140 ex SYD is not showing in the system.

However, is the flight still operating? Easy way to find out is to see if there is an incoming flight from KUL which will turn-around and fly back.

On 18 September, the MH141 departs KUL at 0900, arrives SYD at 1915. This will then form the 2140 with service back to KUL (ie your flight). The inbound flight from KUL is open and available for sale.

If there wasn't an inbound, you'd be contacting MH to investigate some more. But there is.

Looks like the early morning departure out of SYD is cancelled. which I'm on in mid September with a connection to coughet. Better call em and see what we can do methinks. Any ideas on below original itinerary appreciated.

That is great detective work, well done, thanks so much!!

Our bookings are Enrich award bookings in J for Brisbane to London in November 2015 for 1 and Dubai to Brisbane on 1 January 2016. Have not heard from MH yet so phoned them over the weekend. They advised they are waiting to hear from QANTAS as to our domestic flights to and from Sydney. They said will contact us once that is done.

They confirmed that the domestic flights will also be business so that is good to know.

With the flight to London will now have a transit of 7h 15m so will see if they provide a hotel as I read elsewhere that if transit is more than 6 hours they will provide a hotel room. On the way back will need to overnight in Sydney as no time to connect with the last flight to Brisbane.

So my MH MLE-xKUL-PER has become, after a call, MLE-xCMB-xKUL-PER. Leave at 8:40pm, 2 hours transit in CMB at 11pm-1am then another 1.5 hours in KUL. I think I might be a bit tired after all this, but at least it's in J!

Sorted easily. Think Dad is trying to get them to cough up for a hotel, as we just booked a SIN-xKUL-PER flight with now a 14 hour transit due to the cancellation of the evening flight.

Just received a text message saying that MH20 on the 29th of June (today) has been re-timed to fly on the 30th at 04:00AM. Received this text message as I booked someone who are currently on MH148 (MEL to KUL) that were going to connect to MH20. They will now have a very long layover at KUL but at least they will have the lounge..

For that KL to CDG leg - you can watch that disappear soon too. My colleague in Malaysia heard that route and some of their A380's will be going to as they are underutilized - all the focus will go on short regional flights

Now confirmed, KUL-CDG A380 service has been replaced by 777 service effective 5 August.

Oh no, got MH 20/21 booking in J for Oct and now downgrade to 777 means no fully lie flat bed... Orz...

To those of us following them closely most of these should not have been that surprising. BNE was always on the cards. CDG is a pity however, the F loads were seldom high; last time I flew the route I had the whole F cabin to myself! They used have the extra A380 rotating to HK until checks came in and recently ran it down to SYD. Obviously it's a complex calculation of yield, seats vs. frequency etc. etc. however I think we'd all love to see the A380 stay.

The changes I haven't seen yet but semi-expecting are the cancelling of AKL and KIX. Ports like DXB & IST don't get mentioned in the financial papers much but given their competition you do have to wonder. They've been rationalising for years, think of KUL-NRT-LAX or KUL-JNB-EZE or KUL-ARN-JFK. It sucks but give it ~3-5 years. QF intl is now slowly clawing back now from its "demise". For those with bookings don't forget they do have physical ticketing offices in most cities, I've always found the local staff very helpful.

I will be on MH140 next Tuesday 7 July on J award ticket. My booking code doesn't come up on their website but called their call center in MY many times and they confirmed my ticket is exist- I even able to select the seat over the phone. So finger cross and will let you all know how it's goes next week. One question is, this is my first time on MH flight, the transit is 4 hours before my connecting flight to CGK. How is KL biz lounge like for MH? Will it be any long chair for nap?

The MH Lounge isn't great compared to other lounges in South East Asia (the bar area only has seats for a few people despite its size). I don't think they have somewhere you can nap .

There are two lounges at KUL, one in the satellite terminal and main terminal. The big MH lounge is in the satellite terminal, but IMHO the regional lounge (in the main terminal) is much better, it is smaller and more intimate - it has some sofas facing the windows you can stretch out on. You can of course do both lounges, irrespective of where your flight is departing from, but in all likelihood the flight to CGK will be departing from the main terminal (therefore regional lounge will be closest), but MH 140 could arrive at either the main or satellite terminals.
