An Update - Logged into the Dividend Miles booking - KUL-BNE leg has been switched to KUL-SYD with a message to contact dividend miles....

Just off the phone and we are now booked kul-syd overnight in SYD the bne-syd the next morning.

Props to AA/MH - no work required on my end apart from calling to confirm.

which airline is the syd - bne booked on?

Where can I look up an MH PNR? From the app, I am now CMB-KUL-PER, but can't see any MLE-CMB flight. I imagine I've been booked onto Sri Lankan air.

Pretty amazing to have it all sorted already, I'm very impressed if that is the case!

I wonder if this will entice TG not too pull out of the BKK - BNE route which is widely mooted. IF Thai were smart, they would leverage this opportunity

Well considering inside sources citing MH's BNE services has been loss making and unprofitable for quite some time now (apparently 2nd most unprofitable route), I doubt QF would perform any better on the route, premium demand isn't quite there to entice QF. Any tag flight in Asia would be costly, you can still connect onwards to MH from SIN if you wish.

I fly this route a few times a year and it is often well loaded so not sure the lack of profit is due to a shortage of passengers?
The daytime only flights from KL to BNE do deter business travellers. I can see Sinagpore Air putting their prices up very quickly!

But what are they paying?

My partner flew MEL-LHR / CDG-LHR on MH earlier this month, booked one week out...$1500.

No doubt that you can frequently get cheap tickets with them on many of the long haul sectors, the lost flights last year and Air Asia created that pressure.
But there are times you look to book with them and they are charging a hefty rate.

For that KL to CDG leg - you can watch that disappear soon too. My colleague in Malaysia heard that route and some of their A380's will be going to as they are underutilized - all the focus will go on short regional flights.
Now with BA flying into KL that will also put pressure on their LHR loading...

It has been publicly announced that MH are looking to dispose of (sell) two of their A380's, but continuing to service CDG with refurbished 777's(putting in lie flat business class seats).

IMO MH focusing on short haul regional is economic suicide. People will gladly take AirAsia to fly KUL to other East Asian destinations, but people always baulk at LCCs for long haul.

Bne may well be profitable but it's not at a level that's worth continuing services.

Agree the early AM departure ex KUL sucks. Cannot connect from anywhere in Asia.

My parents just flew MNL-KUL-BNE. They had to take a MNL-KUL red eye, with 3 hour or so connection in KUL.

I have never found BNE/KUL (either direction) particularly busy, except for holidays and Chinese New Year. Usually get two seats for myself in Y, and even easy to get exit rows by asking at the airport (no charge, no status).

For example, in May it ceased flying to the US by dropping its service to Los Angeles. Malaysia Airlines will, however, continue flying to London. The shake-up of the company’s route network means it is looking to sell two of its six Airbus A380 superjumbos. To further reduce costs, Malaysia Airlines is planning to renegotiate key contracts, including those with airports.
