MH Enrich "Live the Dream" Redemptions Offer

I think there's a glitch in the booking engine.
It is MH after all.

wafliron;708401 ~51k miles is the "normal" price for one-way in J to Europe (which actually means ~30k wasn't truly 50% off - but you'd hardly complain at that sort of "price"!). I just had a quick search and it looks like Y and F point costs are all showing at "normal" levels too. I'd guess there's one of two things going on here: [B said:
1) [/B]Mistake or bug in their system, causing it not to quote the discounted rates.

2) IIRC, MH use a "dynamic pricing" system for their award seats based on expected loads (etc), so the rates can vary from flight to flight. It's possible what we're seeing now is 50% of a more "expensive" fare based on increased actual/expected loads, with the discount bringing it back to the normal, cheapest, non-special levels.

There is the usual 15% discount for online bookings, so 51K is the usual 15% discount on 60K.
Whilst MH does have a dynamic pricing system it only seem to come into play when there is high demand.

With the new A380 launch, the old F inventory which were akin to SQ's Savers were zeroed out, leaving the equivalent of Standard awards.
Whilst we are all excited about 50% off SYD-KUL being 55K, this discount is off the "Standard" fare class.
It used to be at any time, 46,750 on the "Saver" fare.
So whilst 55K is good now, it's give some take some.

EDIT to add: The site's just gone down. They are probably trying to fix it. We hope.

OK I've sussed out what's going on.
The T & C 's stipulate that the 50% discount applies on redemptions to and from KUL.
So if you make a booking that either originates or terminates in KUL you'll get the 50%.
If you book say SYD-LHR then KUL becomes a stop, and only the 15% discount applies.
I did some dummy One way bookings:

SYD-KUL J 20K, F 55K.
KUL-LHR J 27.5K, F 80K
SYD-LHR J 51K, F 108.7K

You'll need to check which is cheaper: separate segments or married segments.
In the above example, J is cheaper as separate segments, and F cheaper as a married segment.

It would seem that in the early days,
the system was applying the 50% discount across the board,
and this has now been modified.

Sigh. Should have booked earlier.

Thanks Deluxelfyer.

That makes sense.

As you said should have booked earlier.

Still dirt cheap and for the difference in points more than happy to fly J on 777-200 compared to QF J

I just did a telephone booking, Deluxeflyer is correct.

You have to do 2 separate bookings at 50%.
Per-KL J 40 000 points return
Kl - LHR J 55 000 points return.
95 000 in total, still cheaper than 102 000 for single booking online.

Add $1186 in taxes etc.

Seems to be so.

One thing though, is that two days ago, I checked SYD to SIN. It was pricing at the regular price of 34K, one way in business. At this same time, it was pricing SYD to LHR / LAX at less than the price to SIN!!

Pity. I used the Virgin bonus to clear most of my Amex points...
Have about 4000 orphaned Enrich miles as well.

I made the same mistake a few years back on the 30% velocity rewards bonus points. Now I have 200K plus points there that stayed unused and have since continuously worked hard to build up my MR points for bargains like this. I'm not falling into Velocity's trap ever again.

Given that the original email proclaimed "50% discount to all destinations", when it was actually limited to all destinations to or from KL, one cant help but think it was a little misleading and deceptive.
Booking SYD-LHR in two seperate J legs ends up at 95k vs 102k, still a decent deal but hardly 50% off and in reality its not that much better than normal.
60k was probably too good to be true of course butsome folks may now be stuck with Enrich miles transferred in from CCs that they dont actually want in there anymore.
Wouldnt be surprised if this promotion actually ends up annoying their customers.
Especailly if you live in Malaysia but not in KL...

Rang yesterday after checking on net for points PER - LAX in J. On the net showed 60k so called and confirmed 60k J return so transferred points from AMEX 240k for 4 pax. Rang up tonight and it is now 101k points per person. I advised what was said by sales agent and they advised bad luck points are now 101k. I asked for my points bak and apparantly that is a long process and I have to email them...... Not happy Jan!!
BEWARE Dont transfer your points to Enrich based on earlier posts re points required!

In the past, MH have been kind enough to hold seats for me (an MH nobody) for the day or two it takes points to transfer across. I am not sure if they still do this, but if you don't want to worry about online discounts (which probably don't apply to 50% off anyway), then this could be an alternative.

To be fair, this is purely a matter of risks taken and accepted. MAS offer was to Enrich members who have the required points to take advantage of the special redemption offer. If you wait one day for points to be transferred, the product (ie. cheap seats) may be sold out.

Unfortunately I think you were caught out by the glitch in the system in the early days which I referred to earlier.
By the time your points / miles transferred across, the glitch had been fixed.
Whilst MH is...well MH and things can be a little disjointed...
the T & C's were there from start and MH is now enforcing the to/fro KUL requirement for the 50% discount.

For everyone's reference, the T & C's are here:

Yep, I have been caught. I just hope they let me transfer my points back out to Amex.

Yep, I have been caught. I just hope they let me transfer my points back out to Amex.

Trying to get MH to transfer the points back to MR can be fraught with difficulties.

You have 240K Enrich miles now which is enough for 4 pax KUL-LAX return,
which whilst not what you envisaged, is still great.
(I keep thinking of the 30K MR points for SYD-SIN in QF Y as my comparison.)
Why don't you leave the points in MH, do the KUL-LAX in J,
and buy a cheap positioning fare with say AirAsia for PER - KUL ?
I would consider this alternative if I am in your position now.
That way you still get to go to LAX in J, for the very long haul sector,
and you're in Y just for the regional, and you avoid MH possibly stuffing up your points.

all done. booked and ready. shame i have to wait until next March now.
40K per person Syd-KUL-Syd in J with Ms KLN Junior. Mother and daughter bonding time at F1.
Yee Ha!

Yep, I have been caught. I just hope they let me transfer my points back out to Amex.

I think you won't have a chance on that one, sorry. I can't remember the last time someone was able to transfer points back to Amex / reverse an Amex sweep under any circumstances.

Lemonade from lemons suggestion: How much is just KUL-LAX in J return? PER-KUL would be nice in J, though if they are just using A333s with old product, not worth it. You could pay the cash for PER-KUL return (in Y) and still be ahead, I'd think.

Shame that MAS scrapped the planned A380.
Which is better - B777 or B747 for both Y and J class?

adding to that...........Nanny's coming too........3 generations..........it's a good thing that Mr. KLN thinks it's too hot in KL isn't it, with the MIL coming too now. hehehe

Re: Enrich is giving a 50% discount on flight redemptions

for SYD-KUL oneway:
Economy Basic 11.25k
Economy Smart 16.9k
Business Basic 20k
Business Smart 50k
First Smart 55k

No way to buy points, other than buying and redeeming American Express Membership Rewards points...

It's quite interesting that earlier this week on two specific dates I was looking at, the cheapest Y is 16.9K points so I picked an earlier flight for each of to and fro to redeem the 11.25K seats (I didn't have enough points). Today when I checked again, on the dates that I wanted, 11.25K seats become available again. I had to then call them up to change the date with US$20 or A$20 (the allowed you to choose which currency) penalty fee.

With the current discount it is I think 40k plus taxes Syd Kul return

Great fair when u choose the day flights!!
Agree 100%

I did A330 J last month, KUL-MEL< and it is a standard angled lie flat product, comparable to, for those familiar with QF, Skybed Mk I. If people are not happy with this product on a 7hr flight for 20,000 pts plus taxes (ie less than what most airlines charge for economy) I suggest they give up on frequent flyer programs altogether.
LOL

Can I book a MH award flight using my points for a 3rd party ( not flying with them)?
You can do this online as I found out.

all done. booked and ready. shame i have to wait until next March now.
40K per person Syd-KUL-Syd in J with Ms KLN Junior. Mother and daughter bonding time at F1.
Yee Ha!
I have just bitten the bullet and booked 3 return Syd-Kul J fares for next April at 40000 Enrich miles and $400 in taxes per seat. A paid J fare is $4467.02; my Enrich miles came from AMEX (one day transfer time:p) so I got $4000 / 40000 = 10 cents value per AMEX point redeemed.so I'm very happy!!:D As an added bonus, given MHs entry to OW on 1 Feb 13, will get to use the QF F lounge and MH F lounge at either end!! Can't complain about that!
