MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

From what I've read, there is no intention to continue the search, high probability or otherwise.

Your speculation would seem confirmed by this:

MH370: Do Malaysia and China really want to find MH370?

While international laws and consequent obligations (such as 'law of the sea') are complex, surely Australia in spending $70 million has expended sufficiently.

The Malaysians are the most at fault, with it looking as if its airline, Ministry and other Government officials have covered up numerous events and findings.

Much as many of us might dislike the mainland Chinese (good on Mr Trump for paying proper attention to the Taiwanese, a nation with similar population - 23 to 24 million - to Australia and a lot of achievers but that's a side issue and off topic), with MH370 it isn't the mainland Chinese who have been the most deficient.

The whole saga should make many of us stop and consider whether patronising MH or D7 and subsidiaries is a good idea.

I am surprised that there is no mention here yet that the search for MH370 has been called off.

SMH said:
The Australian, Malaysian and Chinese governments have announced the hunt for missing flight MH370 will end immediately, after a two-year search of a 120,000sq km stretch of the Indian Ocean failed to find the plane.

"Despite every effort using the best science available, cutting edge technology, as well as modelling and advice from highly skilled professionals who are the best in their field, unfortunately, the search has not been able to locate the aircraft," the three governments, who have coordinated the search, said in a joint statement.

"Accordingly, the underwater search for MH370 has been suspended. The decision to suspend the underwater search has not been taken lightly nor without sadness."

Very disappointing. The Malaysian government should just stump up the cash to find it.

Poor form too for MH Enrich to still be sending out marketing emails today. They just don't seem to get it.

Yes I still happen to think this is one of the greatest aviation mysteries yet unsolved! I hope the private sector take up the slack

I hope so but unlike shipwrecks there is no "treasure" to be found to offset the cost. If private salvage companies were to fund this where would the money come from? TV rights documentary?, Litigation companies?, Movie deals?. If a consortium takes up the cause and is funded, will the governments of Australia, Malaysia and China provide all the data currently on file, or would they baulk - do they want it found?. I find it incredulous that Malaysia and China - their plane and their citizens - did not provide the majority of funding for the search.

With the three year anniversary of MH370 going missing next week, 'The Weekend Australian' of 4-5 March 2017 has a lengthy article noting that if the captain hijacked the plane, it remains a crime scene.

The ambivalence of the Malaysian government is a disgrace. But then what would one expect from a government whose Prime Minister has faced extremely serious corruption allegations?

Malaysia is off my visiting list and MH on my no fly list, along with D7. The Malays (of Chinese ethnicity) I know resident in Australia say (to varying degrees) that they are pleased to no longer live there.

Some researchers claim they know where MH370 is.

The UWA crash site has been plotted using a reverse-drift model, which successfully predicted where 18 of the 22 pieces of located Boeing 777 debris were found.
The model puts MH370 at Longitude 96.5 East, Latitude 32.5 South, within a 40km radius, UWA oceanography professor Charitha Pattiaratchi said, north of the 25,000 square kilometre search area identified by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) last year.

Researchers claim 'concrete evidence' into MH370's location

CSIRO have done more modelling and testing and are more confident that MH 370 is north of the search zone.

Australian scientists are now more confident than ever that they have worked out where the wreckage of missing flight MH370 is located.
[h=2]Key points:[/h]
  • New research indicates wreckage is north of the actual search zone
  • If evidence deemed 'credible' the search may resume
  • A genuine used Boeing 777 flaperon was modified for analysis

In a report prepared for the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), CSIRO scientists cite new research further indicating the aircraft is north of the actual search zone, in an area twice the size of greater Sydney (25,000km2).
This latest research confirms their earlier drift analysis made in a report released in November.

I wonder how "credible" is defined in this context?

And I wonder how previous assumptions were modified?
I guess there's always going to be an element of a guess-and-check. Whichever way it is, someone will need to come up and foot the bill (most likely funded privately) before anything would be done about it.

Well, since they have effectively "eliminated" a large chunk of area, I suppose they would at least have a better idea of narrowing down the possible drift/transport models or theories. I don't know how that narrows things down in the grand scheme of things; "credible" would be, to my impression, meaning that there's a better than 50% chance, or if their hypothesis proves to be wrong, they may be close to out of ideas.

In any case, anything like that is probably enough for the civilians wanting MH370 found to push the issue of resuming the search, because their predominant "right for justice and closure" argument isn't sound enough.

Who was controlling the aircraft ?
