According to reports coming out, Mexicana will be resuming operations from April 6 but will be a shadow of its former self, with just 7 aircraft operating.

Do they even have 7 aircraft? I thought they were all repossessed.

Not all were leased AFIK, although the two 717s now in QFlink colors were part of the repos!

Hopefully a small start will be what they need to eventually get back on track. Are they still a part of OneWorld?

According to the oneworld website they still are...

Didn't expect this at all, you would think they were next to dead and birdied.

Hope they can make it work and not just delaying the inevitable.

Well at golf I once hit a birdy and it died.Occasionally get a birdie as well!
Anyway a bit of good news for OW at last.Mexicana have always said they will return.Whether OW keeps them is another thing though.
Malev though is well and truly dead never to arise.

Perhaps dead and bogied is more fitting.

Interesting the article states 2,500 employees will be retained. That seems high for a 7 fleet operation. Perhaps the 7 will quickly increase once back in the air.

The biggest issue I see with that report is despite the capital they’re putting in, they now have to pay off the workers that are being laid off. I’m not cruel, workers have rights, but the whole thing went bankrupt and now the people picking up the pieces to try and get it back on track will have to spend a lot on paying off workers not being kept, instead of getting services back up and running.

I’d imagine if they keep the frequent flyer business and extend status that was once held, they’ll hopefully retain their old customers. If they start fresh though… that’s another story.
