Metal Platinum card

No-one seems to have posted on their experience with this card since the Flying High post (on 3/10/18). So the new metal cards must be working okay, or perhaps no-one else here has it?
And to follow up after a couple of months of using it in Australia (and a couple of weeks in the US), I still haven't had a single issue with it.

I might get one now. Just for shiggles though, since I am going to close all me Amex cards prior to Devaluation Day.

Been using the platinum metal card for a while now and basically no issues. The only small issue is if you want to scan your card with an app instead of manually typing in the numbers, most apps can't read it. Not a big issue.

After reading this thread I thought I might as well upgrade to new metal cards - seriously cool card aren’t they - supp cardholders are all agog with theirs - will be nice souvenirs to sit alongside the Cent Cards we all held if I do decide to cancel in April.

IHas anyone replaced their Plastic card due to wear and tear and had to take a new card number?

Yes but they don't seem to disable the old number.

Same as when I upgraded to the metal card. I haven't updated any of my direct debits, Uber account, Menulog, etc. and they're all still charging my old number successfully.

That's good to know.

I was thinking to attach them to my carry on luggage along with the Platinum One e-tags... for that serious DYKWIA factor. But then it would probably go over the 7kg limit :p

I ordered my metal card recently and received it via Express Post in 2 days. So far it has been working fine. I rather like it so it will make a nice momento after I have closed all my Amex accounts later this year.

I wasn't expecting mine until later in this year for usual expiry but got it last week. I like mine too - has a more vibrant look to it and works with all payment terminals so far just like my old plastic card. Will miss the raised embossed details on the front. We don't need to use the old school manual embossers anymore as everything is electronic nowadays so makes sense to have the details not so raised. Best of all because it was a 'renewal', I got to keep the same card number.

I rather the like the lack of an embossed number on the front. It gives the card a very clean look and laser etched number on the back is pretty cool to show people.

Rcvd new metal Plat card just prior to XMAS - supp cardholders are ecstatic - couple data pts:

1. Card would not work at all in Duty Free stores in PVG on Sat but did work elsewhere in Shanghai in restaurants/bars etc

2. New metal card reignites opportunity to crack your bestest joke with Merchants and staff - when you hand card card over and they feel the weight of it - 'Gee this card is heavy' - 'YES that is because it is laden with debt!' - some get it - some don't.

Loving the metal card so far.

Having the card number on the back of the card is a good security feature.

Keeps sensitive details away from prying eyes and cameras.

Off topic but this is a significant issue. I recently had transactions appear on my account for Netflix and Spotify. The transactions were debited to a card that expired and was replaced in 2012. The Netflix transaction was reversed immediately but because I do have a Spotify account that was paid for on my most recent Amex Card it has taken six weeks and the involvement of AFCA to get the Spotify transactions reversed.

The fraud department presented copies of the transactions, made on the long expired card as evidence that all was legitimate.

I am still waiting for an explanation about the Netflix transaction - essentially a new transaction on a long expired card. I suspect I will be asking AFCA to take the matter further.

I am avoiding using Amex for any subscription services.

I'm rather bewildered why Amex thought that showing transactions made 6 years after your card expired was evidence that the charges were legitimate .

Yep so am I. My guess is that Amex raise the issue with Spotify and Spotify sends a copy of their internal transaction showing the last four digits of the card and the transaction approval number. Presumably there is a high degree of automation and not much common sense involved. I am awaiting a response back form the Exec team at Amex but I suspect it will be off to AFCA on this one as well. I think Amex made some changes in their systems recently.

I have had nothing but problems with Amex and its customer service over the last couple of months.

Basic thoughts after a few months of using the card:

- Too heavy for the card slot in my wallet. It constantly slides out.
- I don't carry coins in my wallet, and the weight addition is significant
- Difficult to tell but looks like a plastic bubble has appeared in top corners of the front of the card.
- Great to whip out when I need to prove to someone else how awesome I really am
