Metal Platinum card

Does anyone know what happens with saved offers once you switch cards? Seems like my plastic card is failing with several shops having to insert rather than tap but I have offers saved like the Hilton offer which doesn't expire until Jan 2019 and am looking forward to using that.

Would all the saved offers still be available automatically or do you need to call up to ask them to be manually added or do they just disappear and you lose them?

They transfer across without issue from my experience.

I've read online that there used to be an option to request an extra Amex Platinum Reserve card with no annual fee (when having the Platinum Charge), which comes with extra benefits. Does anyone know if that's still the case? Is it possible to get a Platinum Edge card with no annual fee?

I’ve still got the Gold Charge (probably the exception to the rule nowadays as it’s not longer offered) and the Edge is my free companion to it.

Have had my new metal card for a couple of weeks now. Seems to be functioning normally so far, including tap and insert without any issues.
No-one seems to have posted on their experience with this card since the Flying High post (on 3/10/18). So the new metal cards must be working okay, or perhaps no-one else here has it?

Still had to sign every time in the UK last week. In Aus it's 50:50.

Still far from perfect for me - however YMMV.

Agree - no probs in Aus, although sometimes tap and sometimes sign, although haven't been paying attention to the $ amount which required different actions

Loving the metal card.

Tap and go has a 100% strike rate and I have never been asked to sign in Australia, Singapore or Hong Kong...

My card is coming up for replacement next month. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I have had mine since early September. Used it in Europe and Australia and no issues. PIN for over $100, bit hit and miss in Europe, sometimes sign, sometimes PIN but that’s no different to some of my other cards.

Just to add my experience though I've only used the card in Australia so far. No issues and working just like my old plastic one; tap and go under $100 and PIN for everything above $100.

Also if anyone is interested to know, as mentioned above by others, the offers automatically transferred. I requested the card on a Thursday and used it within the BP app for the BP offer that night. Logged in Friday morning and realised my card number already changed to the new one and no offers were visible in my account. Thought I would have to call later to sort it out when I receive and activate the new card as I didn't get the offer used email either but everything sorted itself out automatically. Local Champion also transferred across. So far so good.

Just got back from 5 weeks in Europe... mostly trouble free experience throughout Germany/Italy/Spain and France both tapping and inserting. Portugal however was problematic; regardless of terminal and whether the merchant accepted Amex, the card always declined. Especially annoying given my bags were lost inbound to Lisbon, and to claim on the included travel inconvenience insurance the transactions had to be made on the charge card itself. Tried swiping, only for the terminal to prompt to insert. Fortunately, a savvy operator worked out that if you inserted the card backwards first, the terminal would be fooled into accepting the mag strip (fallback?), then prompted for both a PIN and signature (eventually approved).

The lengths one goes to for socks and a toothbrush...

I understand if you request one, you have to take a new card number. My plastic card is peeling so will need to request an early replacement. The person at the offshore call center told me I’d be given a new number even thought it’s a replacement for wear and tear. I don’t remember this being the case previously. Has anyone replaced their Plastic card due to wear and tear and had to take a new card number?

The Call Centre assured me that provided that the card was only damaged, and not lost or stolen, I would keep the same number on the new card. So, new card turns up (replacing a damaged card) and guess what. Yep, it’s a new number.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I think I’m going to grin and bear it for a little longer not sure why that is but seems to be a quirk with the metal cards.
