OK - before you egt too excited I dont have the inside track on the ridiculous Oz rules about metal knives - but i think I have found a way around it!!!

I am sat in the JFK F lounge at the moment about to fly JFK-LHR-LCA and am eating from the cheese board using a metal knife. So I think if you flew AA JFK-LXA and connected to a QF flight I could get a metal knife on board.

My thinking is that as you would transit in T4 and there is no need to go back through security at LAX T4 I would not be scanned again.

Hmm perhaps an anonymous email to QF management about this potential gaping flaw in security.....

S

P.s. The flight's delayed...

Why would QF care? The lack of metal cutlery on QF is not by QFs choice but due to CASA regulations; the US has, iirc, dropped the silly restriction on metal cutlery

Dave

Rather than an email to Qantas, I think an email to cutlery smuggling expert Rex Hunt is a better idea.
I'm sure he'd be willing to test your theory.;)

Why the sudden interest in QF's cutlery today. 2 posts so far!!

As Dave Nobel mentioned QF could care less if you bring on metal cutlery. Not only does CASA not approve metal knifes the UK authorities don't approve the forks, hence why all cutlery to and from the UK is the same design, but in plastic.

I am not really fussed whether the cutlery is metal or plastic. I would be more concerned about Amanda Vanstone running around with a box of pencils. :)

Not entirely correct as I just got off a flight JFK-LHR on AA with metal cutlery...

Not surprised. I thought that BA had dropped the metal knife restriction as well as US

Larnaca?

I've been looking at it too recently. Good fares to CAI.

Why are you there?

Even the (not so sensible-sounding) UK is more sensible. LHR BA lounges have mental knives, albeit with very short blade.

I see no reason why plastic is more safe than metal, to be honest. Quite non-sensical.

Wow I am staying clear of those knives.

True - and since they are giving out half-bottles of wine to those in steerage, it is patently obvious that a smashed wine bottle is a far more potent weapon than the metal knives they used to serve with meals.

Dave

Sometimes those bottles are made of plastic as well (altough usually it is glass)

Oops. Trust me to make a ridiculous typo :D

Maybe a freudian slip. Metal knife being banned = mental :p

Family live there. Popped in for my mum's birthday.

Zenobia is a Roll On Roll Off ferry that sank off the coast of Cyprus - a great dive if you can find someone that know's their way around inside :)

It's no Thistlegorm but it is pretty special :)
