Sources tell me a very special event is happening on August 28, there will be a superstar in town.

I propose a drinks night, which ends up being nicely timed to be 1 month after the first.

Current starters:
Flashware
QF009+1
munitalP+1
serfty
penegal
notzac
oz_mark

Where it will be? starting at equinox, later ???

Methinks that's August - I have taken the liberty of changing the thread title ...

I reckon my liver will be up to some more punishment by then! :D

Count me & mrs munitalP in....

Sigh.... more fun and drinking.... ;)

Mr!

:D

I'm a maybe at this stage, and promise to drink less than last time :p

Has anyone been to that new Spice Market place? I'd be keen to check it out.

Spice Market Melbourne

Looks a bit kitsch but I've heard nice things about it. Also they don't take bookings unless a substantial min spend is incurred but if we rock up early enough we shouldn't have a prob taking out seats in the general area.

Looks interesting - parking would be a cough tho....

I say ++ for the spice market

Mr!

:D

A probable at this time

Suggest somewhere not as noisy as the Crown Pub . We have met the Holiday Inn bar before. Close to the train [so SERFTY will be able to get home]. Easy to find and parking in the car park in Flinder Lane (75m away) or across the River at Crown. Those that are keen could go on to somewhere else later.

What is bar like in the new Hilton ?

Rather pleasant, some imaginative coughtails. But expensive for what it is. :(

Spice Market is at the Grand Hyatt, so it's also relatively near Flinders St stn. :)

I like Spice Market, it's a good venue. The min spend for private areas is a bit crazy, but you can spend a more normal amount and enjoy the GP area all the same.

Be warned, this is a very popular new venue, and often packed out on Friday/Saturday nights with corporate types.

Whats the minimum spend though? I spent $249 in "the pub" alone - QF009 at least the same + others...

We easily hit their targets - mind you, someone else can shout me n keith next time!!! LOL

  :D

I'd definitely be in on that - was at one point looking at booking the Belle Epoque Lounge private room for a mates birthday, but timing didn't work out in the end. Maybe we can start there to get some of the general seating and then go elsewhere?

Also, take special care to note the dress code:

Dress code is very smart casual.
(Gentlemen are required to wear a collared shirt, no polo shirts or t-shirts, no sneakers)

QF009, I expect you're an expert at this venue already -- as a group, are we trendy enough to get in? :D

I picked up the final tab at 1806, so someone should shout me too, LOL :p

Fri & Sat $1200 min spend

Ottomans

Only in conjunction with Persian Room
Tue - Sat $500 min spend

There is also a Super Premium room with a $2.5k min spend

It's getting towards the upper end of things... thoughts?

There is nothing stopping us just congregating in the general bar, but we would probably need to arrive early I think.

Looks like plans are already to go somewhere well out of my budget, not to mention flights even on JQ seem expensive this time.

I also have my mum visiting around that weekend, so unless I can convince her to visit MEL for the day to see an art exhibition, I'll have to give this one a miss. Probably for the best, allows me to save for the AFF SYD do.

On Friday night? Surely you are kidding.

Well out of my budget. What is the obsession with attending expensive venues?
