Hey Folks,

I've got a flight booked in January with QF (flying in J) from SYD to AKL (via MEL) and was just wondering what the current situation with connecting at MEL is for domestic to international departures? I'm guessing my luggage will be through checked to AKL but I'd need to clear security and emmigration at the INTL terminal? Are the domestic and international terminals beside each other so there's a simple e-gate to pass through as is the case in YUL and YYZ or is the process more complex?

Your bag will be checked through in SYD all the way to AKL. When landing in MEL there is no dedicated connection path, you just exit landside and walk to T2 (the buildings are connected on the departure floor, so no need to go outside. Then proceed to international security.

From MEL T1 domestic to MEL T2 international is a 3 minute walk and up 1 level (lift or stairway at T1). At T2 you will go through security and then emigration (~kiosks). After escaping the duty free maze you are in the terminal proper. Follow the signs to the QF lounges.
