Melbourne Airport stalling and preventing bus stops at the main terminals

Friggin finally, just read the linked story and saw the map of location.

Just tried out the journey planner. I warned me that the bus stop would now be T1 and no longer at T4... Like that is a real disruption! Unless your getting a Tiger flight.

At T4?

Try 150 metres South of T4 ... and 500 metres from where it used to be t central T1.

Re: Really Skybus?

Tend to agree. I have good intentions of catching train/skybus when I travel but 99% of the time I just end up driving and parking, especially if its under 5 days.

I have a train station 5min walk from home, 1hr journey to Southern Cross then skybus. Where as I can be at the airport in 1hr from my front door. Thanks to serfty (I think it was) I now pre-book my long term parking for 25% discount.

Seriously consider off-site airport parking. I am parking in one ATM at MEL for $130 (undercover secured) for 23 days. The shuttles are frequent and as a frequent parker I get a free car wash every 5th park. MEL airport long term is a major rip off, even with the 25% off

Actually ended up using Ace Airport Parking on the last trip, and was pretty happy. Gave the guys the keys, waited 2 minutes for a shuttle and I was on the way. Same on the way back. Best part was not trying to find my way out of the long-term car park!

The answer varies with the length of stay, but for some shortish stays (say 3-5 days), the discounted MEL long term parking can work out cheaper....

Agree, I just left my car for four days in the long term car park and with prepayment it was less than $52

The place I park starts at $15 for the first day (calendar) undercover and $12 outdoor. As a frequent parker (more than 5 in 6 months) I get 20% off those rates. MEL has long term starting at $29 for up to 24 hours, then $49 for 2 days. 3 days is $69 but that's up to 5 days. My place is $62 for 5 days but only $42 for 3, undercover (or $52 and $32 for outdoor). Knock 20% off them if you're parking often, and it mounts up pretty quick. This is Busy Beaver, a subsidiary of Andrews Airport Parking (Just not quite as convenient to get to as Andrews but for the price and the excellent service the folks up there give me, i'll keep going). It's also a valet type service. Leave keys, jump on shuttle. Call when you get back and they'll pick you up (Zone 2 or 5). Never waited more than 10 minutes for a shuttle even in off peak.

And for MEL undercover long term, let's not go there ;) I'll happily park off-site in a secure compound that's undercover for less than the cost of MEL open-air (where people can come and go easily and ding your car without a 'sorry' note far more easily).

Re: Really Skybus?

Well here is the new bus stop. One for the 901 and one for the others. Just outside the QF/JQ domestic terminal.

Let's hope this move sticks. Well done MEL.

...

It must be sticking. You don't often see a bus that can drive upside down, so there must be something attaching (pun intended) the wheels to the road. :p

Sorry, had to have a go there. :D

Might have to consider the public bus next time I go to MEL to get to the city, though I hope they still offer paper tickets at reasonable prices, as I can't see myself investing in a myki without regular travel.

Myki only, unless someone does a complete about-face. Pathetic.

A Myki card costs $6.00. It can be bought on the bus. A 2-hour weekday trip airport to the city costs $5.92. Together it's $11.92 - so you'll recover the Myki card cost over a 1-way Skybus ticket ($17.00) on the first trip.

Also, on weekends and public holidays, it's a max of $3.50 all day.

Hi All,

Caught the bus today - so handy. Was visiting a friend in Tullamarine and taxi drivers often refuse short fares. The fact it is now undercover is great, especially with MEL winter days.;)

Well done? I am sure they were dragged kicking and screaming into it:shock:

Any trip reports for this bus to CBD yet?

I live near the SkyBus terminal. So just curious how much more inconvenient it is, and whether it's worth saving a few bucks on. (Currently using a 10x SkyBus pass @ $13 per trip.)
