Melatonin Recommendations

My suggestion is to try it before relying on it as there can be different outcomes to that which is desired.

In my case it causes precisely the opposite to the desired effect and I become wide awake. 

it is called rebound wakefulness, try detoxing your liver.

Thanks for the comments.

Ended up up at the doctor anyway so picked up Circadian on script.

I work in a job that requires changing sleep patterns from 'normal' to night shift. The hardest part is the first few days when starting the switch. Would it make sense to try taking melatonin an hour before sleeping on the new shift? Usually I try to go to sleep at midday because I have to wake up at midnight, however I end up waking up about 6-7pm and not being able to go back to sleep. This lasts for a few days before I finally switch over, although I never feel normal on the new work time.

- and does it work?
- how do you use it?

Kind of curious about melatonin as travelling to the U.S. always wears me down, but last trip I spent a lot more time outdoors and it was the U.S. summer and I felt better than I normally do over there. I'm travelling over there again in a couple of weeks but won't see much of the sun this time so am wondering if melatonin might help.

Love it really helps me. I use 5mg for a few nights you can get it from any US pharmac_ prescription free.

Personally it doesn't help me.
But I buy mine from Amazon, great range and ships from the USA.

I'm pretty sure it works for me - or maybe I get a placebo effect :) Whenever I go to bed when I'm out of whack time-zone-wise, I take one (3-5mg), or, if I can get to sleep, but wake up at 2-3am, I'll take one then, but not after 3am.

Buy it in the USA when you get there, over the counter. The USA sells the good stuff, whereas in Oz it’s weak.

I didn’t realise you could buy it here.
Chemist Warehouse, although most likely available elsewhere as well.

Edit: I think the stuff available here is rubbish (almost no effect). Not sure what they do to it

Many thanks for the replies, and the mods for joining this to the old melatonin thread. I will give it a go I think, but will test it before I go as I'm one of those people that some medications have the opposite effect on.

CVS and Walgreens sell them
Have to say though husband loves their 5 mg does nothing for me but Aussie script 2mg is excellent for me

The OTC melatonin they sell in Chemist Warehouse etc. here are "Hoemopathic" Melatonin which means there's no melatonin in it. Well it is a 6x dilution which means there MIGHT be a trace but it's nothing more than a pill. Can't get the actual stuff without a perscription here, but you can OTC in the USA as people have said.

All homeopathic stuff is a scam and should never be sold but that's a different discussion.

Oz melatonin = Gnasty.

Can you post a link to a brand/store you buy from (on Amazon) as I am sure there are lots and quality will vary?

Quite general search, but just filter it based on reviews. Also a prime membership helps with shipping costs.
