Re: MEL/SYD Flounge treatments - ? Spa for invited guest

Has anyone had any issue with booking a spa session for his/her invited guest in lieu of your entitlement ?

No, I am not thinking of double dipping (WP + guest).

I am happy to forgo mine if +1 could have it.

Thanks

Does anyone know if the First Lounge will call those travelling in F on QF, but booked through an AAdvantage redemption, prior to departure?

i.e. To book spa treatment etc...

When FL contacts you - you can arrange a spa booking when you arrive if no availability for +1 give them yours. Also if you are not aware you can have curb side meet, you give them ETA and they will give you a contact no. to call when you are 5 mins away.

In the early days of FL spa treatments were only for J and F pax changed end of 2010.

Re: MEL/SYD Flounge treatments - ? Spa for invited guest

The only difference being, a First Passenger can book a treatment the day before, virtually guaranteeing one while "anyone else" has to wait until they actually arrive at the lounge. Reports are that often there are non available by then (esp. SYD).
Yes - but still not double dipping as the +1 is still only taking a spot that is available to one and all - I don't see that swapping hats i.e. the +1 gets the booked spot, while the other plays the spa lottery makes any difference. I suspect this is akin to arguing over how many angels fit on a pin :)

Disclaimer - I have never done this as +1 or +2) always flies the same class as me. :)

Re: MEL/SYD Flounge treatments - ? Spa for invited guest

Flying J (together) does not open the F lounge for you, but WP does.

But I had a re-think about the term "double dipping". I reckon it was inaccurate.

It is, IMHO, similar to a WP requesting a complimentary exit row seat for the travelling partner (SG, PS or NB).

If it is available, then the next WP coming along may miss out that exit row seat (to the earlier-booking WP's travelling partner).

I doubt if any WP here would quibble over that issue.

Unlike being able to book exit rows in advance this is an on the day lottery. If the person in F could request an extra spa treatment the day before for the +1, then I could see the parallel to your example, but this is all happening in a very small time window and all the people are equal. The person in F gets one booking and then after that everyone is equal requesting a spare slot. If the WPs get in earlier they get the free slot. There is no prioritising, which says a guest of an F person gets priority over the WP - all just first in best dressed.....

Re: MEL/SYD Flounge treatments - ? Spa for invited guest

I wonder if anyone knows how many massage therapists are on duty on a single day.

Given that (i) check in opens at T-3, (ii) boarding occurs at T-1/2, it means there are only 2.5 hrs available for each flight.

Now assuming there is no other QF flight at the same time, there are only 5 sessions of 30 min each per therapist i.e. only 5 pax.

Some spa session goes on for 50 min even.

How does that work for a F cabin of 14 pax ?

Yes, some flights have less but some (QF1, QF11 for example) has more than 5 pax.

Does it follow then that some F pax might miss out on the spa session if they all want to have one.

Puzzling !

Not true. Not sure what the limit is in Sydney but some AFFers check in for an F flight hour and hours before, plus you have the people in transit from other dom or int services.
I'm interested in the answer you your post though :)

Re: MEL/SYD Flounge treatments - ? Spa for invited guest

I read here on AFF that F agents are known to politely decline earlier check in for pax with checked baggage until T-4 or T-3.

HLO, maybe....

It's 4 hours for the long haul flights, but note that QF is doing a trial of all day check-in at SYD

No, I don't believe anyone misses out. 50 minute sessions aren't available at busy times. In SYD ~ 6 treatment rooms 6-8 therapists (estimate). 36 pax in 3 hours??

Re: MEL/SYD Flounge treatments - ? Spa for invited guest

Checked in 3.5 hrs pre QF11 at a very empty F counter

Tickets issued all the way to final US destination + baggage tagging: all under 3 min !

In F lounge in less than 10 min later

That, the mozzarella, is after the Hot Facial spa session.

Have to do this more often !

Re: MEL/SYD Flounge treatments - ? Spa for invited guest

Just thought I would make a special mention to all the staff here at the MEL "F" Lounge this morning. From Check-in to Breakfast (w/bubbles) to my first ever Hot Towel Facial in the Spa.....absolutely brilliant. Makes a Sunday morning on the road a little more bearable.
P.S- don't tell Mrs Dmac about the bubbles. :D

On entry at 7am yesterday I was offered a spa booking - I politely declined as unlike most, I dislike massages and most treatments.
