If you are flying a oneworld airline you will be able to use the MEL one if you are departing from the international terminal

Domestic J lounge in MEL as the leg MEL-SYD is domestic and then F lounge in SYD. You will be able to check your bags through but you need to find the appropriate 'manned' dest in MEL to do so.

In saying this I'm assuming you have booked with Qantas. Are you flying economy or business?

Check though - QF to FJ - yes.

Lounges depends a bit on the class of travel.

If Y: Qantas DOM J lounge in MEL. No lounge in SYD INT unless you booked with a QF flight number - then it's the Flounge. (you can always use the DOM J longe in SYD however).

If J: Qantas DOM J lounge in MEL. J lounge in SYD INT unless you booked with a QF flight number - then it's the Flounge.

Even if it was a MEL-NAN direct service, you will not be able to use the 1st checkin suite. QF does not do the ground work for Air Pacific anymore.

Otherwise for lounge access, QF flight number is needed.

It's Domestic MEL-SYD so QF domestic check-in and domestic QF J-lounge. Then the QF Flounge in Sydney International. I've done this many times!

This would only be if your MEL/SYD flight was an intl one (QF1 to QF399) as you would clear customs in MEL & the FLounge in MEL is airside after customs. If you were on an intl JQ flight eg JQ36 MEL/SYD you could also use the FLounge but unsure if their schedule would connect with a SYD/NAN flight.

Lounges depends a bit on the class of travel.

If pax is WP but travelling whY SYD/NAN & booked as "FJ" flight not as QF codeshare flight can they not still use the QF J Lounge at SYD intl terminal?

That can be done. Need to book a J* fight Mel-Syd that leaves from the Mel international terminal. Check on the J* booking engine. Any flight that shows a Business option is part of an international flight and will get you into the FLounge in Mel. The fight will arrive at the Syd international terminal and with your QF flight number on you BP to Nandi you will get access to the Syd FLounge as well. You would need to do a overnight stay in Syd as the J* flights arrive Syd 13:15 or 15:25 or 16:00 and the Nan flight departs at 12:50.

No - it has to be a QF flight number. Not an FJ flight number. Well at least according to the QF website.

QF WP's used to get in to the QF J lounge when Any-Time-Access existed.

Even if booked as a QF flight via the QF web site they will issue the boarding pass with an FJ flight number. Not an issue with the F lounge in my experience.

Both QF lounges can check the actual booking (not what's on the BP). I've seen them do this serveral times in the F lounge. And have been told by the F lounge staff that if it's an FJ booking, it's J lounge access (if flying J class).

I'm not 100% sure, but according to the Qantas website, there is no QF lounge access at all if on an FJ booking and flying in Y class. (Since anytime access for WPs was taken away)

If you booked a QF flight number to NAN and the ticket/itinerary says so accordingly, regardless, of what the BP says, you'll be allowed in the F lounge. The lounge staff will have a list of such passengers. As mentioned before, even you booked the QF flight number, your BP will still have a FJ number.

This has been my experience and reported by others too.
