In August 2016 (Mega Giveaway), February 2018 (Mega Giveaway II) and January (2019) (Mega Giveaway III) I made available to AFF members surplus airline items that I’ve collected. It’s been a long time between drinks, but it’s finally time for round IV.
This time there are 54 items, 48 of which are pyjamas and amenity kits.
How it works
There won’t be a scavenger hunt like there was for rounds II and III. I don’t think it’s possible to edit a post more than 24 hours after it’s made, which means it’s not possible for me to update the hunt items that have been found without imposing on a moderator. That gets coughbersome and annoying. And the forum no longer has a wiki capability so that’s out, too.
The items are divided into tiers A, B and C. If you’d like an item, simply say so in a post. I’ll confirm that it hasn’t already been taken and that it’s yours. You may only request one item at a time. Furthermore, you must wait at least 24 hours (tier A) or 12 hours (tier B) between requesting subsequent items. The time is calculated from when you request the item, not from when I can confirm it. Tier C items may be requested at any time.
I will post updates to what's taken and what's still available from time-to-time.
The cost
Naturally, the items are free. However, at the end of the giveaway, I will PM the recipients with an address to which you will need to send a self-addressed, pre-paid satchel (or similar) so I can send the item to you. Please be conscious of both the weight and size of your item(s) when purchasing postage and send me a PM if you’d like me to give you an idea. You're free to do with the items what you want but I do ask you don't sell them.
Eligibility
To participate in the giveaway you must have joined AFF no later than November 2022 and have at least 30 posts.
What's on offer
The 54 items on offer will be posted in post two of this thread when the giveaway starts.
Departure time
Tomorrow is Good Friday and it is well known that Jesus was an avgeek. There is the story of how Jesus turned water into Delta SkyMiles (only to promptly turn them back into water). And we’ve all heard the ‘Flying of the 5000’ story (John 6:1-14) where Jesus took five Qantas Frequent Flyer points and two high-earning frequent flyers cards to fly 5000 people. (Of course, non-believers posit that the only way Jesus was able to do this was by speaking with a Qantas agent in Cape Town and that when he and his followers presented at check-in, they learned no tickets had in fact ever been issued, being told simply that the only option was to apply for a refund. But I digress.)
Therefore, barring something unforeseen, the giveaway will officially begin between 10am and 11am Adelaide time tomorrow, Good Friday, 7 April.
Why AFF and not charities?
I give a bunch of travel stuff to two charities. When I stay at a hotel, I regularly clean out the complimentary soaps, toothbrushes and combs and they go to where they are needed. My intention in offering up these kits and pyjamas on AFF is because I acknowledge that not everyone gets a chance to fly beyond Y and even less far forward than J. AFF members are lovers of flying and I'd like to share some of my good fortune with them.
