John the Zinfandel reminded me of California so I got home and booked flights to get there Feb 28.

If you really want to try some good CA Zin, cove​, unzip that sclerotic wallet of yours while you're over there and seek out some Turley single-vineyard offerings. You will come back saying that last night's Andrew Seppelt (aka Murray St Vineyards at Greenock in the Barossa) Zin (trendily labelled Primitivo, which is what this old Croatian variety Tribidrag is called in Puglia, S Italy) - and with a somewhat OTT claim to being from a unique clone that is 'better' than the usual Zin), while not bad, does not remind you of really good CA Zin - which is the world Zin benchmark (in the way that Argentinian Malbec is for that variety) .

I'd have grounded UITA - for that photo on their meeting thread doing this to me - 3 months sounds about the right punishment

My sclerotic wallet was very lucky that the rain held off (mostly). Now I have 3 weeks to work out what Californian Zin to buy.
Last night was pretty smokey in Perth so the choice of a dinner on 1st Feb was very good.
