Masterchef in SYD Flounge - was anyone there?

Was she off overseas anywhere recently? You could then pinpoint the date, not that it'd matter.

Never really looked inside at kitchen, so interesting to see it from a different angle for a change.

I thought Red did better.

Anna Blight hasn't had any overseas trips recently (that I'm aware of).

No idea what she was doing there, apart from being a media tart with her husband. Oh well Anna, milk your fame for all it's worth because you're hopeless in every other aspect of being Premier.

I'm aware of the rules.... I think the rules were bent because it is a area in which pax generally are.

If you are aware of the rules, you will know that public areas are ASIC display areas as well as secure areas. The same applies for MSIC as ASIC - of which I had both in my previous job as defence force contractors.

Reality check is - this is a TV show, it should not be exempt of the rules IMHO.

She headed on a 10 day trade mission on the 20th June to China, so chances are she was on QF87.

SYD Int F lounge on Masterchef

Wow, have to say the lounge looks impressive and so does the food.

Contestants last night had to cook in the kitchen of the SYD int. F lounge and their food was judged by Alan Joyce, Neil Perry and Matt Preston.

Club sandwich looked tasty!

Never realised how small the F kitchen is.

Didn't know about the 20min rule either.

For the first time that I know, I noticed that they advertise the fact that the Flounge is staffed by Sofitel.

Did anyone else get the impression that they hired actors to sit in the area just across from the kitchen?

I definitely recognised one of the guys sitting there. His face was very clearly shown twice during the show. He is the same guy that Qantas has on the web site explaining the next generation check in system.

Faster, smarter check-in

I've seen him presenting segments in various unrelated TV shows occasionally too.

Sounds like a social junket comprising an eclectic mix of teachers pets & social wannabees.

I clicked on the above link to the supposed how to video which IMHO fails to really show what needs to be done. It just screams having being designed by some mung bean eating advertising 'guru' with a ponytail & bears little resemblance to what actually happens in the real world.

Just watched it and I would say it was filmed after 10pm using actors. No planes could be seen moving and I got a glimpse of road working machines on a taxiway.

Yeah, I noticed that too, and I don't think I've seen it before. Certainly not on the other F lounge adverts.

Interesting. Still what markis10 says about Anna Bligh heading off on the 20th works too. Perhaps they started service towards the end of the night, and finished with mostly lectors and dare I say it, staff from the show, ordering food.

Dear MEL FLounge staff.

This coming weekend I will be dining at your facility. Please be aware that that I have packed my fob watch and will be timing to ensure that the twenty minute rule is STRICTLY adhered to. I would also prefer if my meal is prepared by staff who have mastered the extremely detailed and difficult culinary technique of heating a hamburger bun under a griller.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Chad

Wow. Glad I didn't spend $15k on an F ticket to see these guys in the kitchen. Did they have pros making normal food on the side?

Actually these amateurs have demonstrated considerable skill during the shows (and some glaring errors) -I dont think SOfitel would have let sub standard food go out given their chef was running the pass.

Interesting observation - very tempted to email the show to ask them...

Just wondering if you have ever used a commercial salamander (not griller) to toast a brioche (more likely to burn) bun?

A few of my thoughts:

- I too was unaware of the 20 minute rule - I have a pocket watch around here somewhere so will be joining the timing team as well ;)
- Club sandwich signature dish? Never had it and don't recall it on the menu...
- The oval table the judges sat at - where is that? The table in the middle of the restaurant area is round rather than oval if I recall correctly

I dont even recall seeing it on the menu - I normally have the minute steak, followed by a cheese plate - swilled down with Bolly!

I’ve seen it on the menu, but it’s such a big meal, that I’ve never wanted just that. The novelty of ordering a 3-course meal (or two breakfasts ) hasn’t worn off yet.

Was the table oval or was that just an artefact of whatever lens they were using on the camera to get them all in frame?

I can't even stop my temperamental toaster from burning my bread.

OK so I'm a week behind in Masterchef and haven't got to this episode yet.

Can someone explain the 20 minute rule?
