Masks rules - Airline Enforcement?

What signal? Most people were locked up in their homes when COVD came a knocking...or otherwise out of work and on government welfare. I doubt they needed further examples of government intervention to tell them there was a pandemic.

I think this represents a significantly higher proportion of the population than we previously thought during normal times, so maybe they did need a reminder that it was a slightly different than usual “no work day”

That’s why they had contact tracers and apps

I think that may have worked when we had single digit daily “cases”. That’s well and truly in the past. I don’t know a single person who, in 2022, has a definitive answer as to where they “caught it” (large inline with most colds).

Much was made of the need to be masked over the PA on QF1/2 during our recent trips. FAs were fastidious themselves, but I did not see any of them asking pax to put masks back on during the flight. The pilot I bumped into as he emerged from the crew rest area was not wearing a mask.

I see that the EU is removing the mask mandate from next week. I wonder if that will be a cause for any kind of review by Australian airlines or those who fly to these shores?

Key take out:

ECDC director Andrea Ammon said that although the wearing of masks would no longer be compulsory, it was important to remember that "together with physical distancing and good hand hygiene, it is one of the best methods of reducing transmission".

They all say that... the US airlines said that too.

Probably not while WA is at their peak. I think they're now more cases per capita than any other state ever had.

I believe Australia no longer requires masks on outbound international flights. So flying to the US on a US carrier you should not require a mask once onboard.

No!!!!! ;)

If mask mandates discourage people from travelling, especially in economy that’s a good thing. As long the business cabins are full (to sustain the service), a few empty seats in economy because people don’t want to travel and wear a mask, then that’s a good thing , more room and more space for the rest of us., especially on long haul!!! . :p🤣

I wasn't aware of that. We are due to fly EK Y to Europe next month. The EK website is pretty clear that masks must be worn on all flights and in transit at DXB. That's going to be a joyful 14hrs from MEL to DXB.

It's also up to the airline - which is why I specified flying to the US on US carriers - as I'm fairly certain QF require masks on all routes.
