MAS Promo Business ticket

you could take MH129 on the 28th, still I class available

and just pay the penalty of RM200 only ? without the fare difference ?

That is what happens with me personally, if the same booking class is available QF only charge the change fee and I would assume MH is the same. Can't find the rules for an I class fare but the cheapest Z class fare rules I can see at the moment stipulate;

TICKET RE-ISSUANCE DUE DATE CHANGES PERMITTED FOC.
LOCAL SERVICE FEE MAY APPLY.

and I reckon that RM200 would be the local service fee, I would say give them a buzz and ask about changing to MH129 on the 28th

called and informed that is not possible for me to change my ticket without paying the fare differences.
as that is the promotional business ticket and the promotion ended (obviously) and i cant cancel the ticket to get the refund as well..

so it really leave me no choice but to fly on the 30th march..

Without the actual fare rules, it's hard to say if what you've been told by MAS today is correct or not. We now know it is I class, but not the actual fare basis. We know the reason for the RM2000 charge is that there is no I class left on the days you want. Travelling via ADL may be possible, again, without the proper fare basis and rules, there's not much more advice anyone here can give.

Unfortunately, the fare basis was not shown in the e-ticket extract you included, just the fare bucket class (I).

I'm sure many of us here would be happy to give you more advice, but we're a bit stuck at present. If you're still keen to pursue options, I'd suggest ringing up MAS, and asking them for the full fare basis (it will start with the letter I), and you could also ask them to email you the fare rules (though we can look it up on Expert Flyer if it was a publicly available fare).

It is quite hard to tell what the exact fare conditions are, made even more difficult because it is a KL point of sale fare, so it doesn't come up when I do a historical fare search because it was never available for Australian agents to sell. The I class fare that was available for Australian agents to sell for that departure date permitted changes FOC, but was also more expensive (base fare of 7763 MYR + Tax).

From what has been said though, I reckon the fare you have is comparable to the Z class fares ex-Australia. Here is the extract from the conditions of that fare:

FIRST OUTBOUND DATE CHANGE / UPGRADE TO HIGHER CLASS / DESTINATION CHANGES - ALL TICKETS MUST BE REISSUED TO CURRENT FARE PLUS ANY FARE DIFFERENCE TO REFLECT THE CORRECT TRAVEL DATE. AUD 500 PENALTY FEE WILL APPLY. SUBSEQUENT FLIGHT SECTORS - TICKET RE-ISSUANCE DUE DATE CHANGES PERMITTED FOC. LOCAL SERVICE FEE MAY APPLY.

It is the "All tickets must be reissued to current fare" line that is driving the additional fare collection even when there is I class available. It technically doesn't say that for changes to subsequent flight sectors, but fare conditions are rarely written well and if I read that I would, through experience, advise that they would recalculate the fare to today's price should you want to change. It is a sale fare and it is logical that they wouldn't allow that fare to be available again after the sale period has ended.

The Z class fare ex-Australia is also non-refundable after departure.

MH do have great discounted fares in both Economy and Business. But the trade off is that they are expensive to change. Just yesterday I booked a client an MH Business Class fare to London ex-Melbourne, departing the Friday before Christmas for less than $5900 return. It's an incredible price for that time of year, but it does have those restrictive conditions.

They did told me that my ticket is I class, but not available anymore and only Delta class available now.. As she mentioned, the ticket were bought during promotion, yes it can be changed with RM200 penalty only, but only during the promotion period.. (im not aware of this when i pay for the ticket) After that, fare difference will be charged (RM2000)..if changes needed..

good news :-) i send a complain email to MAS with regards to this matter and also voiced out my complain about the personnel who handled my request to change the ticket coz she was rude to me and actually didnt really let me explain myself (keep on barging me) and promised will call me to let me know the updates and obviously no call back and the worst part is i asked for a reference no or anything that i can call and ask about the status if she didnt call me back, she kept on commenting i will receive a call back but as you guys know that will never happen..

received an email from MAS customer service offering to waive all the fees for me to change the ticket :-) due to the 'rudeness' of the staff that handle my call..

actually i didnt expect this, the reason i wrote the email is just to voiced out my 'anger' coz i dont deserve to be treated rudely on the phone, even its a Promo Business Class ticket..

I am happy to read that ...
but they told me they will find the voice records, and let me know the outcome.. which is already 3 days now.. i guess it will take longer as i bought the ticket in June..
Unfortunately it is your words against theirs. I doubt they keep voice records on file (probably except for training purposes).
I suggest they did find the voice records.

It may be of interest that it is relatively simple and inexpensive these days for a company to record ALL voice conversations. These can then be stored with indexing. Such indexing can include your name, agent, flight(s), PNR etc.

So retrieval can be quite simple - I suggest some Agent re-eduction is or has taken place as a result of annielee's issue.
