Hi Experts,

I'm a newbie in this forum (silent reader most of the time) but needed some help or advise now if possible.

Bought a MAS (malaysia airlines) promo biz class ticket in June, booked online but pay over the phone coz needed to clarify that return date change is possible without penalty. (which was confirmed by the personnel on the phone as she said its a business class ticket and wont be any penalty if return date is change as long as the outgoing date is fulfilled) Happy with her answer and pay for the ticket.

Flew out as stated in the ticket in mid June 2012, and needed to change the return date, so called them for the amendment, and was quoted RM200 penalty and need to pay the fare difference (RM2000), as its a promo business class ticket ! Argued with them and they will trace the call and get back to me on my options..

Was wondering anyone have successfully got the penalty and fare differences waived due to their mistake ? What's my possibility that i will 'win' ?

What did the T&C say when you booked online?
Personally I have never heard of promotional fare tickets that allow you to change dates without penalty.

The eticket is very simple only.. RESTRICTIONS: VALID ON DATE/FLT SHOWN ONLYTKT/TL02JUN12
But i remembered i agree to pay for the ticket only when she mentioned no penalty and date can be changed.

I dont mind paying the penalty of RM200 but not the fare difference of RM2000 !

it didn't show anything like this online?? this is standard business fare bear in mind also so don't see they would be making an exception on a sale one.

unfortunately sounds like a dreaded case of the call centre either misunderstanding or not caring and just saying anything...

OP hasn't supplied the details, but I wonder if this is more the case that there are no seats left in the promo fare bucket for the flight OP wants to change to.

If the OP can supply the fare basis code (should be on the e-ticket), and the flight/date the OP wants to change to, some of us here should be able to look it up and confirm if this is indeed what the situation is.

where do i find the code you mentioned ?
even that, i called and confirmed the ticket condition before paying for the ticket, which means i wan misinformed by the personnel on the conditions, will i still be charge according to the ticket condition ?

Unfortunately it is your words against theirs. I doubt they keep voice records on file (probably except for training purposes).

but they told me they will find the voice records, and let me know the outcome.. which is already 3 days now.. i guess it will take longer as i bought the ticket in June..

I would guess that is exactly what the issue is, when changing a ticket there has to be availability in the same booking class otherwise you have to pay the difference (on top of change fee if applicable)

I agree with delfredo that it is unlikely that they will find the voice recording.

Annielee, if you look closely at your air ticket, you will see something that says "Fare Basis" or "Fare Calculation" or "Fare Information", and there will be a block of letters like DBZ1YMY, where the first letter is likely to be a J C D Z or I (but could be something else), or your online booking confirmation may say Business (Z) or Business (D).

Business doesn't mean business - not every seat sold is interchangeable across flights. For example, you might have bought a Business seat in the Z fare bucket originally, and the flight you want to change to only has Business seats left in the J or C buckets. So, even when you are told you can change flights "free", it means "free subject to availability in that specific fare bucket you bought". If you had a Business (Z) seat originally, the flight you want might have no Z seats left for sale, and only Business (J) or (C), and perhaps Business (C) is RM2000 more expensive than Business (Z). Every airline will charge you the fare difference in this case.

Posters here will be able to help you more if you can find the fare basis code on your e-ticket, and post that and which date(s) you were trying to change your flight to.

just 1 day earlier..since 29/3 is a PH, so hope to fly on the 29th morning flight instead..

from 30/3/2013 to 29/3/2013 only..

Agreed. Fare basis I (the cheapest MH business bucket). Now, annielee - which dates did you want to change your flight to?

You would need to check that with MH but I doubt it would be that simple. They would still hit you with a fare difference for the MEL-ADL, if they would even allow it.
