Must say I am really looking forward to The Tasman in Hobart. Hope it does not go the way of the Hyatt property.

Just found Marriott Courtyard in Brisbane is up and running. Handy to Southbank area

I'm surprised by the lack of a presence in Darwin.

Back in the distant past there were 3 Sheratons in the NT and we stayed at all of them.
Also the Sheraton Hobart. Now the Grand Chancellor.

TIL W Sydney is going to be the world's largest W...

W Sydney update: interior fit out has commenced according to the screenshot below.

When I last drove past a few weeks ago the cranes and scaffolding were still up, but they have been making good progress since the photo a few posts back.

I am somewhat perplexed on how they will control for noise at this location with the roadway being directly underneath it?

Some bloody thick glass I guess. Eastbound traffic is almost always gridlocked through that section, but westbound you'd get plenty of loud buses struggling up the hill...

The fit-out of The Tasman in Hobart (only 6 star, 'Luxury Collection' Marriott in Australia) is continuing - slowly. In the current environment, any opening before the end of the year would be 'problematical' .

Although its location is excellent - just above the docks area, Salamanca, parks etc, and a block from right downtown - its location on Davey St to me is problematical. This is the busiest street in Hobart, and the corner location means that traffic noise will be constant. I hope they have put in triple glazing! The site wraps right around the corner of Davey and Murray Sts; the buildings 10 and 12 on the map have gone & been rebuilt, modern.

The view of the Davey St frontage (4 lanes), the main drag through Hobart; docks down to the left:

Earlier Google street view of the right of the above. 2 renovated old colonial buildings - these will be interesting to visit!!

View from down the hill, on Murray St. This will be the main entrance. Parliament House is just to the left. The site has incorporated several old colonial buildings - two as above and the old facade (only) below, the 1930s art-deco building on the corner, plus the new glass additions.

Best room I think would be top floor, of the high bit, looking back over the docks and Salamanca, not over Davey St. Quiet with great views. @Princess Fiona take note 🙂

Thanks for sharing this mate; yes I just saw a quick write up in Travel Daily Thursday afternoon about the property. I have always been a big advocate for 'ultra quiet' hotels .. my wife and I are a bit obsessive about it (sometimes guilty asking for room changes sometimes to lower quality ones) to escape noise (especially street traffic like revving cars late in to the night. Here is the snippet that was published.

I just found another pic of the new Tasman in Hobart. Partly computer generated, but looks accurate. The hotel occupies 1/2 of the block, roughly cut diagonally down the middle - so faces both streets here. The other half of the block is Tas Parliament house, public service and some public spaces. As I've mentioned before, busy Davey St along one front.

From what I can tell the rooms are built behind the original facade and you can see there is new windows behind the old existing windows.
If I remember I will check to see what plans we have at work and if they detail what they have done.

Also there was recently an article in the Mercury about the property being up for sale, $300 Million from memory.
