What on earth is going on in Melbourne mid-October to cause the Mercure to be $5K/night??

I just checked the price calendar. Mercure Melbourne is $5K/night from 24 August—5 December. It's $4.25K from 2 July—23 August.

Sorry - was looking at the wrong hotel, but it's still the same principle. Basically, the hotel's open for booking until 1 July. After that, they're trying to deter bookings without making it unavailable.

I think three of those (St Kilda, Pullman, and Mercure) have the same owner.

As others have pointed out. Saying no without saying no basically, unless of course you're crazy enough to book at that price.

If whatever their reason for doing this resolved, the pricing will adjust back to normal.
