Man lights up in loo, then runs amok on Qantas flight

I can’t believe people are leaping to his defence. It very clearly states, in a number of places, that you can’t smoke in a plane, and as you also can’t smoke in the airport (other than a box somewhere) and in most restaurants and cafes around Australia, there’s no way you could plead ignorance. Plus he then acted like a tool.

Judging by the comments, there will be more who smoke and end up in trouble, hopefully their comments can be saved to aid in prosecution ;)

It must have been the nicotine receptors in his brain that set him off as they were in need of their fix :D

Rules are rules, and smoking in the toilet is especially dangerous due to the fire hazard from discarded butts etc.

If someone is that hopelessly addicted to the cancer sticks, it would be a good idea to take nicotine gum/ patches on a long flight.

You realise this story is a year old?

Cripes, you're right!

Geez, do I feel like a royal goose right now.:oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:

Mods, feel free to delete / close this topic.

I do wonder why media companies post "the first scoop" but often fail to post the follow-up.

Still, the adelaide now site had it with today's date:confused:

Good to see News Ltd are adopting a recycling policy...

Not the first time year old stories have resurface on a newspaper site.

Rupert doesn't care as long as he continues to make his squillions.

If this is a year old, what was the outcome for the passenger, was he fined, did he go to jail, was he put on a no fly list etc? :p

On a related note - if you're put on a no-fly list as a result of doing something stupid on a flight out of your home country, how do you get home?

Do they bring you back and then put you on the no-fly list?

Do they bring you back and then put you on the no-fly list?

A no-fly list is airline specific AFAICT; it would be bad luck if you were banned off every single airline (although if one airline bans you, no reason why another airline would be hesitant to carry you too).

In any case, there must exist some way to get you back; at "best" maybe it's you on an airline that doesn't want to carry you but you'll be under armed escort (although for the furious smoker in the article, that may not be enough, or might be dangerous).

At worst, you could be put on a ship I guess.

What a twit.

Hopefully the Singapore govt throw the book at him!

As V Australia's safety video says "incase you havn't flown in the last century... no smoking!"

I flew in the last century and I know about no smoking on planes. They had no smoking for the best part of the last decade of the last century.

(For those who get the slightly obscure reference to another thread in the playground  ;))

How do old stories resurface in the headlines of the day? It would also be nice to do a follow up story of what happened to the idiot in SIN?

Could not understand how there are people defending him or his actions after being caught. If you bother to listen to any safety announcement it clearly mentions that all flights are non-smoking.

I found this story by chasing some "Related Articles" from another story (not too surprisingly, the key link word was "Qantas").

Unfortunately, I had neglected to check the date of the article  as the related articles do not necessarily have to be of recent.

As I said, there doesn't seem to be a follow-up article of what happened to the man and there rarely seems to be so...
