Malindo Air given CASA approval to fly to Perth.

As the title says Malindo Air has now been given Australian approval to commence flights to Perth from KL.

The on-line site of the "Star" newspaper from Malaysia says that CASA has given approval for 11 flights a week commencing 11 November. Still awaiting for approval from the Malaysian side.

According to the "Star" the introductory one way fares (from KL I presume) are RM599 ($193) for economy & RM 1,499($482) for Business. The website says this fair includes light refreshments, in-flight entertainment & a "free" baggage allowance. They have 32"seat pitch for economy and a 42" pitch for business class. The photos on their website make their fit-out look good.

Malindo is apparently a "hybrid carrier" and a joint venture between Lion Air of Indonesia and the National Aerospace and Defence Industries of Malaysia. The Lion Air connection is the only downer I can see.

I believe they will be using 737 - 900ER with, apparently, 12Y & 168Y seats - all delivered from 2013 on. The layout seems quite spacious for this type of operator.

Surprised it has the range. I wonder if they'll use an -800 instead? Although I note airline route has it as a 739 and KUL-HKG as a 738 - i wonder if that is back to front?

I am certainly no expert, but according to my research the Extended Range attached to the 900ER means that it has the same range as other 737NG variants. Which I assume means that it has the same range as the - 800.

I just booked for late December in Business for $687 PER-KUL one way.

Has anyone given them a crack yet?

...and for those interested it was a great flight. On time, great service, basic alcohol included, comfy seats, and reasonably private at the pointy end.

That's good to know Shifty - gives us another possibility to KL. The other reviews I have read also mostly seem to be positive.
