Malaysia Airlines lounges

MH First Golden Lounge Brakfast menu (from 7am)

Well, I'm going to be a bit negative here.

I'm a bit of a fan of the MH (first/emerald) lounge in KLIA. But I must say, the hot "American Breakfast", as listed on serfty's post, the other day was pretty awful. Even a 3 star hotel would (mostly) do better! It was just overcooked cheap stuff. But very nicely presented!

A decent little additional hot food buffet selection would have been welcome (à la most hotels). But there was none.

Out in the main part of the F-lounge, only drinks (coffee, tea, soft and alcoholic) were on offer but nothing more. Not even a pastry or a sandwich.

And a note about the hours:

Although the F-lounge is open 24/7, its restaurant is not. The kitchen closes at 22:40 and the dining room at 23:00. I got there at 22:38 the other night and it was a "no" to a food order! I did point out that it was only 22:38 but they suggested to go over to the J-lounge which has 24/7 food. :) So I did. And it did.

But if you want alcoholic drinks, be aware that the J-lounge bar closes at 23:00 ! So too bad if you want a glass of wine with your after 23:00 late dinner.

After some food in the J-lounge, I did venture back to the F-lounge for a glass of wine. :)

The family and I (2 Adults, 4 yr old, 2 yr old) are flying on the 22:10 KUL flight from Syd this Thursday. All four are in Economy seats, and i'm OWE

What should we expect in terms of lounge access? Will the QF F lounge still be open? Will we be directed to Plaza Premium, but then have to pay for the two kids?

Trying to figure out the options in KUL while we transit to LHR - Here, I think we will have to pay for the two kids (no free kids access ala QF from what I recall)

In KUL you would have access to the Golden Lounge for yourself and partner and I believe infants (under 2 yo) are free. They are normally pretty flexible so at best you will need to buy only 1 child pass which is about $50 for memory or at worse 2x child’s passes.
Unless rules have been relaxed despite you as a OWE being eligible for the F lounge I believe passes are only given to the J lounge so you will most likely end up there. Can always try your luck though.
Pre Covid you could buy passes early on the app or website and this was about $5-10 cheaper than the walk in rate

I'll be flying Malaysia Airlines on economy SYD-KUL in a couple of weeks.
I'm a Qantas Gold FF and with MAS now a Oneworld member, I was wondering if I'll have access to their lounges in Sydney and/or KL. If not, would I be allowed into the Qantas or other OW alliance lounges though flying MAS?

There is not "if not".

The answers are: Yes and yes...

Thank you. It's been a long while since I've flown with another airline other than Qantas and haven't paid much attention to the OW rules.
