Making an extra 6000-8000+ points by connecting a step tracker

Do you use this app? I suspect you don't, because if you did you'd be much more at ease. It's a very poorly designed advertising platform that does not reflect reality in any way. You have to actually intervene manually to make the app take any sort of measurement, it's capability to do anything independently is poor, very poor.
Well that is as simple as the next App upgrade which can be rolled out when they have the user update or the venture capitalist who wants to monetize it.

Here is an article discussing how the apps are progressing. Maybe this app is different.

Yes, those free health apps are sharing your data with other companies

Maybe it is, but that's no counter for the simple fact that the data is complete and utter rubbish.

It can only record one activity at a time, so let's use walking and cycling as examples.

For walking, I use a Xiaomi step tracker. It is not supported directly the app but by Google Fit which also acts as a pedometer using the accelerometer in my phone.

Google Fit just adds the 2 numbers, which differ easily by a third on a daily basis, together. This suits me fine because I get more points this way. I have the dual app feature on my phone which then records this same step count for mine and my wife's steps.

It is total utter bullshit data that I find of 0 use to myself outside of the points.

If I didnt walk much for a day I switch to cycling, and it then thinks I was riding a bike while I was driving around. Another set of bullshit data for points.

What do you think Qantas are doing with this mass of bullshit data that they have gone to next to no trouble to validate? I would guess they're binning it and selling my QFF profile data that they had anyway.

At the end of the day, the data makes me look considerably more healthy than I am. I've left the step tracker on my pocket before and got 20K steps when it went through the rinse cycle in the washing machine. Plenty of people strap theirs to their dog.

It's dead set junk data, they can have it.

This is a terrible deal. This undervalues the value of this information to your insurer. Think about why is someone giving a trickle of points to know exactly what time you rise, how active you are? Yes, the health benefits are obvious but the financial benefit to the insurer outweighs the 2 points per day.

Most importantly they can now assess changes to your lifestyle, location changes, steps, routes, job changes, when you are sick, when you have health problems (ie Mattg didn't exercise all this month. Cross reference to QF, hmmm no flights, that's weird. Let's access his myhealth record and check.)

This is a major sellout and I implore people to realise how cheaply they are selling out their privacy.

Geez, lucky I opted out of My Health Check!

I do agree that there must be something in it for QF - they wouldn't just give away points for sleeping if they weren't monetizing the data in some way.

If anyone can be bothered to read it, the Qantas Wellbeing privacy policy could make for interesting reading - Privacy

If you accept the NSW cancer challenge in March the earn resets to max points each week and night..and it will offer other challenges during the year to reset the points earn. 150 pts for referring someone...slow earn but it does keep the QFF account ticking over - even when you’re asleep.

Not for me, all offers want me to purchase something and that is not going to happen. I have never read the privacy policy and do not really care, I just use the app for points. I have pretty regular travel patterns and use a fit bit so on a weekly basis:
  • Weekly goal 110 pts - usually a flight
  • x2 or x4 daily goals 22 points - usually flights
  • either x5 or x3 steep challenges 20 points, depending on flights
  • x7 nights sleeping
So on average I pick up around 270-300 points a week for going about my daily business.

March challenge just starting again everyone. Sorry I’m in South America and haven’t had internet for a few days
