Here's something I learnt today at work from a colleague and got onto it straight away..

You can COVERT YOUR STEPS (from a pedometer like fitbit/garmin/apple or straight from your Smartphone through the health/steps tracker v'Health' apps ... to QANTAS FREQUENT FLYER POINTS!!

My god where has this been for the past 2 years that I have been using a Fitbit??? Am I the only one that had no idea?

Yay to us all saving money:), making points:) and making some Money!!!

Need to QF insurance to actually get points from what I saw. Has anyone compared that to other insurance products in NZ or in AU?

i just joined today, and in the set up process it gives you 3 pieces of info about that:

1. you get 28 days of the full points limits for steps
2. at 28 days you get offered Qantas insurance and if you get that then you continue getting full rate of points for steps
3. If you don't get insurance then it still gives you points for your steps but reduced. just doesn't say how much it's reduced by.

so right now i have setup my goal to around 6000 steps and i will get like 15pts for it... I reckon after the 28 days they will reduce the earning capacity to maybe 10-12pts for the 6000 steps..

was working fine this morning and right now my app seems to be in a loop of wanting me to set up a 'challenge' !! so i can't go into it to get the exact number of points per bandwidth of steps..

You don't need to have one of the QF branded insurance policies to earn points, however the reduced earn is a lot more limited than what the OP states. From memory, 20,000 steps a day earns 2.2 points which is the maximum and the weekly challenge maximum of 120,000 steps earns 11 points.

Oh that's cough... so really the first 28 days is where you get a better deal... i am getting around 15pts for 8000 steps from memory..

The earn used to be better but it got cut about this time last year. They do have periods where they give you full earn but I’d say you’d probably get about 1500 points/yr at the reduced rate

I've been on the WellBeing App now for around 18 months and received 67K QF FF points. The majority of these (circa 50K) have come from transferring my private health insurance across to Qantas Health (aka NIB Health).

I am getting 1.5 points daily for hitting 8,000 steps per day (the reduced rate). Completing the weekly challenge of 50,000 steps gives 7.5 points. Essentially not much, but for those folks whom do not fly to often or need an easy way to keep their points from expiring, this would definitely be one of the easiest methods to do so.

thanks heaps for that info.. now I feel like a moron:oops: for the title I so excitedly put out! Talk about bursting the bubble :(

I have the QF life insurance and QF health policies which gives double points for reaching your goals and for other challenges from time to time.
Currently have it set at 10k per day which nets me 36 points and 70k for the weekly challenge which gets me 170 points so I’m averaging about 422 points per week.
Not a huge amount but it’s better than nothing

Reduced rate points earning:
1000 Daily Steps = 0.4 Points
2000 Daily Steps = 0.6 Points
4000 Daily Steps = 0.9 Points
6000 Daily Steps = 1.2 Points
8000 Daily Steps = 1.5 Points
10000 Daily Steps = 1.8 Points
12000 Daily Steps = 1.9 Points
14000 Daily Steps = 2 Points
16000 Daily Steps = 2.1 Points
20000 Daily Steps = 2.2 Points

I've used it for a couple years now, not a big points earner but each week points post to my account keeping the activity ticking over.

Has anyone tried churning this product?

if you need the points and already have QF Insurance then go ahead. Personally, I found the drain on my battery of having GPS on all the time to track my steps to be too annoying.

FYI step tracking doesn't use GPS.

Not sure what product it was exactly, but a couple of years ago there was some QF Life Insurance Policy a few of us on here signed up for that gave some points (20,000 - 30,000 maybe?). Cancelling after 3 months with the minimum payment of something like $10/mth was easy points. There would be a thread on here somewhere with the details.

Here it is - Up to 30KQFF Points for Joining Qantas Life Insurance HT: Ozbargain

Is that so? Interesting, I thought when I signed up it tried to suggest Id need GPS on to ensure accuracy. Will give it a go non GPS and see if it works

Steps will be measured using the accelerometers. GPS might be required for distance tracking, but even that can be extrapolated roughly from steps. I don't know what phone you have, but on Android (and I'm sure on iPhones too), you're actually granting location access. That can be calculated from several sources and really shouldn't drain your battery these days.

Seems to be very old news. Better news would be about the hack to reset the app so that you get the original first months bonus points rates every month even without QFF insurance.

Also, if you're driving somewhere, before you set off, go into your phone health/fitness app and start a cycling activity (not sure if FitBit does this as well). It'll record distance and give points accordingly.
